I might have ailments, but the ailments do not have me, nor will ever keep me from God's purpose in my life.
What an awesome testimony and attitude.
I'm reminded of Pauls thorn in the flesh. I believe it is a euphemism for all the sin that surrounds Paul while serving in Gods King kingdom. Others believe it's a physical ailment. Regardless, Gods answer is sufficient for either and either way, there will come a day when both views will come true.

Can hardly wait for that new glorified body :sohappy

Reading through all the post one word comes to mind, "perseverance". Persistence in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success.

This is me and so many others through and through. I have great faith in Christ and believe everything He has taught and apply those teachings to my life. I love Him with all my heart and soul and have a very close relationship and fellowship with Him.

I've never discussed my ailments nor have I ever asked anyone here to pray for me as I learned along time ago how to deal with all of it as I endure and no matter what my focus will always be on Christ and me being a faithful servant to others. I have pain in my lower back as I shifted my L-4 and L-5 in my back due to an ATV accident I had a little over a year ago. I also have arthritus that has caused me to have two knee replacements and two hip replacements. Now I have developed neuropathy in both my feet and the pain is so great at times but, I have found a natural herb that helps take that pain away, but the numbness is getting worse and very bothersome. I do have an appointment with a Neurologist, but can't see her until January.

It's very difficult to walk at times, but I have to push myself everyday to get up and and continue to do the things I can still do. Throughout the years I have prayed and ask God for healing, been anointed with oil by the elders of the church, but yet nothing. God has even worked through me to lay hands on others as we prayed together for their healing and they were healed. I kept asking God, why not me? This was my answer. Flesh is flesh and it will get sick and break down within the years and flesh will eventually die, but I am always with you because of your faith.

I might have ailments, but the ailments do not have me, nor will ever keep me from God's purpose in my life.
This is a great post and very much how I feel.
Sometimes we get well from something and it's difficult to know if it was a natural healing - or - it could have been a healing from God as it might have been something serious.

We all have some ailment or other. I suffer from back ailments as you do. I've learned to adjust my life to this so that discs do not protrude -- listening to God is a way to keep well. Having His wisdom is very helpful to me.

This in itself is a healing.

And if it not God's will to heal us,,,then we could be thankful to know Him so that He can sustain us in our ailments. It's important never to give the enemy the glory by despairing.

Many say they are not trusting God for their healing until something happens to their body that they have to live with for the rest of their life. It's always easy to trust and tell others the same when everything is going good in your life.

I understand this. I have been blessed with relatively good health. The health issues i have are unseen ( except my hip which shows itself on rare occasion ).

Our oldest son has a pretty big health concern. I'm in Texas helping him move. However, we had to take him to the ER our first night here... BTW, he is doing well now and you would not know he has any issues if you saw him. For my wife and I, we count this as answered prayers.

I also have a granddaughter with Austism spectrum disorder. It was quite a job raising her. We knew there were many in worse conditons and always thanked God she wasn't worse. As she got older, she got better. We just thank God for this...They say over here that when God closes a door, He opens a window. He always helps us some way or other.

for_his_glory is very right on in her post no. 65.
We should always give God the glory. For whatever He does for us; be it small or be it something big.

I see nothing in the Bible to indicate that people gathering together (meeting) to pray for the sick is wrong.

Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. James 5:14-15

Here we see the Holy Spirit through Janes instructing us to call for the elders and anoint the sick with oil.

That would be a healing meeting, whereby the elders as well as the person who is sick together with the sick persons family are gathered together.

Yes gather to gether, not to hold a publick service complete with collection and an alter call for healing.

So you agree, having a meeting to see people healed is not wrong?

If the primary reason is healing it is wrong.

We meet together to worship God, not to boast the ego of someone who says they can heal the sick.

It seems you are creating a narrative that doesn’t exist in scripture.

The scripture that was initially used to discuss

Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. James 5:14-15

Here we see the biblical meeting for healing the sick among the brethren.

It’s not about boasting anyone’s ego.

People gather together for prayer, teaching, encouragement, worship and yes, healing.

Let’s please examine and use scripture and the pattern that was left to us from the first century church.

Are there false teachers out there? Yes

But we don’t stop reading the Bible and teaching just because there are false teachers, rather we speak the truth and let the truth expose the false teachings of man.

Likewise, because there may be some who try and “manufacture” healings and signs and wonders, it does mean that the Lord has ceased to work these things among His people today.

There is a counterfeit because there is the real.

Read the passage again.

You did not understand what is meant by, 'Let him call for the elders and let them pray over him.'

The elders are summonds to the home of the sick person and it is there faith in praying that heals.

There is no authority here for healing meetings or for the lie, that the sick persons lack of faith didn't heal them.

It’s a gathering to heal, whether in a home or hospital or a church where many are sick. It’s about people gathering for healing.

clearly, im with jlb on this one. i was...I guess healed (?), definitely transformed...over time, gradually...no healing service, no church elders, because I was a destroyed outcast, so...no church people, in general (not trying to throw a pity party...there's plenty of lost souls in modern day America, OK?).

but...for those who are in church, etc...to me, a healing service seems a splendid concept, and a good way to bring the church people together, too. :)

And what of those with real illnesses who have no message from God that they are going to be healed?

How does a church with a 'healing ministry' minister to them?

The common expectation is Christians WILL be healed, those who are not are somehow lacking in faith!
That those like Paul who live with a 'thorn in the flesh' are not faithfull devout Christians but in some unexplained way 'bad' Christians.
How are the sick ministered to, when they remain sick?

That's a very cynical way to look at God's power and His sovereignty. He is not our cosmic coke machine where we feed in our tithe money then push a prayer button and demand our prize.

I agree the healing ministry cirus is nothing but a cynical abuse of the sick.

a God-fearing church having a healing service is...

--perfectly-- godly, in my view. no one's asking for cash for healing, no one's promising miracles...

its a group of God's children, fellow-shipping, praying, wanting the best for their fellow believers...

problem? I don't see one...
