Formerly believed to be, and called in many places our ancestor, the newest Naledi fossil NEO throws an interesting curve ball. The nearly complete skull found shows the following enlightenments. The smallness of the skull says it is probably an extinct variety of ape. This is confirmed by the protruding lower jaw, the sagittal crest, and the protruding brow ridge. But most interesting is the dating which cannot show this creature to have been older than at most 300,000 years and is thus demonstrative evidence that these creatures were not actually ancestors, but lived simultaneously with early homo-sapiens.

Stories appear to already be being crafted that explain this curveball away to fit the historical narrative of evolutions lineage myth, but the fact remains the “most complete” Naledi fossil individual found among these newest finds is still far from complete and cannot be said to demonstrate any sort of definite in-between (transitional) stage from early ape to human.

What we can say (and I agree having viewed these many times and compared them online) the hands and feet of Naledi are far more human like than anything previously observed in so called ape fossils.

So if we go by the latter re-definition of “transitional” as not implying in-between, but simply homologically sharing characteristics in common with two different species, then by all means Naledi is transitional.

Though I disagree with redefining commonly understood terms to make one’s case (a common technique used by propagandists and rhetoricians) I have to admit that Naledi is more human like than any other early ape I have ever had the pleasure to explore.

Obviously this variety of ape had evolved these features and eventually went extinct (maybe early humans slaughtered them ro ate them discarding their bones) but being objective is important to me in the pursuit of truth.

Being a person who always believes that separating the actual (what is noticeably there for real) from the hypothetical stories associated (how this can be fit into one’s paradigm) is essential for accurate assessment, I can say Naledi is the most fascinating of all the alleged relatives (which we may or may not be related LINEALLY).

What do some of you think about NEO and these other factors? Any thoughts?
