Anyone have any advice on setting up a network printer? I have a wireless network in the house, and I want to print something from my laptop (running Win2000) on the printer connected to my desktop (running XP Home).

Would another solution be to use a dedicated, wireless printserver?

Also, help with file sharing between the 2 machines would be greatly appreciated. I plan on playing around with this tomorrow, and don't want to waste the entire morning on it.

It's amazing how simmple things are when the directions are followed, and the details attended to...

I must have had a slight dyslexic moment when I last tinkered with this as the workgroup on my laptop machine had 2 letters transposed. Fixed it, and all works well.

Aah, the simplest way of doing this is to hang (connect) the printer off your desktop PC. (Which you already did) Now set up the printer to share. (printer properties/sharing tab). Go to security tab (in printer properties) and make sure laptop user is set up as user on XP pc and give user 'Print' permissions. That's it. :biggrin

I had done that in the past. The problem I had was the workgroup on computer A was ABCD, and the workgroup on computer B was ABDC. I guess windows doesn't do dyslexia...
