Naughty bugs and petals. Hope you told them off. :)
Well I got the first coat on the top buffed with wax and steel wool and the second coat setting up now. (In my kitchen)

Maybe it will be set in the morning. For the third coat.

I'm getting tired of this project. But my wife is in love with it already...she is thinking about more of them.

That's you sorted for the next few months :lol
Bet it's looking good now.
Well it's morning here...
And once I get out of my bathrobe and into some regular clothes...which only happens once I've drunk enough coffee....
I'll get the last coat of polyurethane on after I buff it out with wax and steel wool again.

On a side note...the finish on the top is looking better with every coat of polyurethane I put on...I'm hoping that the third time will be the charm.
I see every bubble and brush stroke.
My eyes are drawn to them.
My wife doesn't see them.
I want perfection but she says leave that for the true master Craftsman...
*Sigh*
I still want it though.

Did you say the colour is cherry?

I wouldn't be able to see the bubbles or brush strokes either. You're putting d8cj a lot of work in into this, it will be a masterpiece.

I'm seeing the drips and brush strokes...
Just finally got it rubbed down so that the wax is off of it... getting the top ready for its final coat.

I'm tired of this project...I can't do it perfect. And that's the frustrating part.
I'm sure that I'll like it better come Christmas time.

In what way will it not be perfe?
Love it anyway. Your wife will.
She said something about taking out a doorframe and wall if it wouldn't fit when we move one day.

I'm not exactly sure if this last coat is going to fix everything or not...
I'll see in the morning what comes about.

I'll be happy if it holds cookies.

One last note of the day...
I gotta wait three days before I can put it together for the final build.

That's when the top will have completely cured out and I can turn it upside down so it can be assembled.
Tomorrow I'm supposed to go and do a bit of Electrical work.
I also got my physical therapy...

But then I can put a coat of polyurethane on the fence. I got a couple days before I need it done.

The break will do me some good.

Yeah you need a break. Then you will probably feel better once it's assembled.
Enjoy your break :wave

So,
Yesterday I assembled the legs to the fence/box that the top will rest upon and attach to.

It's sitting nice and level with no rocking...no feet are needed so I'm not going to attach them.

I also decided not to glue the buttons in place with wood glue. Because I live in an apartment and my wife's career is moving forward we will probably move out of Nashville at some point.

I'll need to take the legs off the table...so I'll let the polyurethane glue the buttons in place.

But the thing is rock solid. Looks good...not as great as I'd hoped but good enough.

Today I'll put on the coats of polyurethane on the fence/box and the final coat on the legs.

When that finally gets finished I'll attach the top to the thing.

And I gotta find and figure out some kind of picture sharing service so you can see the final product.

Beautiful work. I love the colour and it has very glossy shine.
Looks really smooth too, great work John.
Pictures 5&6 show the sanding after the initial staining and why. All those scratches in the stain going the wrong way.

But it didn't turn out horrible...and it's good and sturdy... exactly what I wanted to hold cookies.
I'll see about uploading some pics from previous years production.

I couldn't see the scratches. I loved it.
