Faith only strengthens when tested, for it never detracts. Its sole function moves ever forward, never deviating in any other direction. When it is at rest it is only waiting on God, which further strengthens its substance (Luke 17:5). Thus, faith is ever seen to be the sole manifestation of God in its purpose of evincing His works through His vessels (Heb 11:1).

Such is faith that derives from love (Gal 5:6), the love of God through those reborn connecting to others being brought unto rebirth. The growth by its Author (Heb 12:2) is observed most in difficulties and despondence (Jam 1:3), and faith’s possessor sees that it is not he that brings it along—but it bringing him!

Faith is that of Christ Jesus and all the promises of God. It's not even our faith as Christ is our faith through belief and trust on our part in the hope of things we can not see. When God test our faith it's to examine our true we are to Him.

Psalms 26:1 Judge me, O LORD; for I have walked in mine integrity: I have trusted also in the LORD; therefore I shall not slide. 2 Examine me, O LORD, and prove me; try my reins and my heart.

Psalms 139:23 Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: 24 And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

When God test our faith it's to examine our true we are to Him.
And that's for our sake of course, not His, because He is all knowing (Psa 139:1). As David was always desirous of knowing that his heart was for God in everything, so he seeks Him to continue to show him where his heart is with Him. Thus, God shows us in the degree in which He has prepared us to receive and properly respond with our new nature through His Spirit, in the "Life" (Col 3:4) of Christ.

God's blessings to you!
