But why didn't we keep it as the 8th month when the change was implemented and have August in the 10th spot. Would have made more sense.

Those must have been some old calendars, since to Roman empire had been dead and gone for centuries before they switched to the current calendar.

Julian calender was used until the Gregorian Calender which is what we have used since with one modification, the leap year.

There was more than just that. The start of the new year used to be April 1st, now it is January 1st. This is why the former is called April Fools.

Jewish month begins the new moon as they use a Lunar Calendar unlike our Gregorian Calendar. The Lunar Calendar started with Abid/March so count from March to October and October is the eight Lunar month.
