OT tithe & NT giving

Tithe Origin
Lev 27:30 And all the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land, or of the fruit of the tree, is the LORD'S: it is holy unto the LORD.
(NOTE: land, seed, fruit)

31 And if a man will at all redeem ought of his tithes, he shall add thereto the fifth part thereof.
(NOTE: If the landowner wanted to bring cash he had to pay an extra 20% fee/tax)

32 And concerning the tithe of the herd, or of the flock, even of whatsoever passeth under the rod, the tenth shall be holy unto the LORD.
(NOTE: One out of 10 animals that passes under the rod were given to the priesthood Ok, a rod was put up, you walk your animals 1 by 1 under it. At #10 you give one to the Priesthood. If you only had 19 animals you gave only 1)

33 He shall not search whether it be good or bad, neither shall he change it: and if he change it at all, then both it and the change thereof shall be holy; it shall not be redeemed.

34 These are the commandments, which the LORD commanded Moses for the children of Israel in mount Sinai.
(NOTE: This command is given "ONLY" to the children of Israel (NOT THE CHURCH).

BTW:
A fisherman paid nothing on his catch, tradesmen, cobblers, who made the shoes for the servants of the field, did not tithe. Carpenters, potters, the women, who made the soliders garments, the servants who worked in the fields for wages, did not tithe.

The tithe was exclusively a tax on the produce on the land of Israel & animals. So if you didn't live within the Promised land (Israel), then you were not required to pay tithe. Numbers 18:21 clearly states; “all the tithes in Israel,” tithes were only paid on people’s increase (Deuteronomy 14:22), on their agricultural products (Leviticus 27:30), within the land of Israel & the owners herd & flocks Lev 27:32.

Land owners paid three tithes of a tenth each, not one. The Levitical tithe (Numbers 18:19-20), the festival tithe (Deuteronomy 14:22-17), and the poor tithe, every 3rd year (Deuteronomy 14:28-29).

Every 7th (Sabbath) year (Exodus 23:10-11), and 50th (Jubilee) year (Leviticus 25:10-11), the entire nation of tithers, within the nation of Israel were completely excluded from paying tithes for those ENTIRE YEARS.

Tithe & the Priesthood
Num 18:
24 But the tithes of the children of Israel, which they offer as an heave offering unto the LORD, I have given to the Levites to inherit: therefore I have said unto them, Among the children of Israel they shall have no inheritance.

25 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

26 Thus speak unto the Levites, and say unto them, When ye take of the children of Israel the tithes which I have given you from them for your inheritance, then ye shall offer up an heave offering of it for the LORD, even a tenth part of the tithe.

27 And this your heave offering shall be reckoned unto you, as though it were the corn of the threshingfloor, and as the fulness of the winepress.

28 Thus ye also shall offer an heave offering unto the LORD of all your tithes, which ye receive of the children of Israel; and ye shall give thereof the LORD'S heave offering to Aaron the priest.
(NOTE: "But the TITHES<<PLURAL of the "children of Israel" I have given to the Levites to inherit" (NOT THE CHURCH). 12 Tribe's; 11 are given a Land portion to possess. The Priesthood gets no land possession. They can't grow food or expand herds. The other 11 are to give a tithe to support the Levites & the Temple. ANY LEVITES IN YOUR CHURCH?

New Testament giving:
1 Cor 16:2 Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come.
(NOTE: Bring WEEKLY your best freewill gift)

2 Corinthians 9:
6 But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.
(NOTE: Give a little, receive a little, give alot, receive alot)

7 Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, ""or of necessity"": for God loveth a cheerful giver.
(NOTE: A tithe was given out of the laws necessity. A worthless gift from todays believer. A freewill gift from the heart is loved and rewarded by our Lord. Even a drink of water given in His name Mk 9:41)

When it comes to giving. New covenant Christians are taught to give generously, sacrificial & expectant of a blessing in return. And most certainly be CHEERFULL FREEWILL GIVER'S!

We should all prayerfully examine our giving patterns. Pray earnestly that the Holy Spirit would challenge us. To see whether they are in line with God's New Testament plan of being Generous, Sacrificial, Cheerful Giver's!

Additional tithe context:

Facts on Abraham tithing in Hebrews:

ABRAM
Genesis 14: Abram gives 10% (vs 20) of the best of the war spoils he'd taken. To the Priest & King of Salem, Melchizedek.

Abram gives the best 10% of the war spoils to Melchizedek. And the remaining 90% to Sodom & Gomorrah (vs 24). Abram kept NOTHING for himself!

Abram NEVER PAID 10% of his personal items (EVER!): No cattle, no oil or wine, no corn or wheat & NO MONEY! Only booty from the Kings he conquered while retrieving his kidnapped nephew Lot.

Facts on JACOB tithing pre-law. Although, Jacob didn't tithe under a must give system. His free will giving, came with his own conditions

After wrestling with the Lord Gen 32:28. The Lord changes Jacobs name to Israel. Jacob's 12 sons become the 12 Tribes of Israel. Each son receives a portion of Land except Levi. Leiv's Tribe is chosen to be the priests.

The purpose of the tithe. Was because, unlike all the other tribes. The Levites did not reveice or own any property. therefore had no means of income. So God provided for the Levite tribe, the priestly’ tribe. With the tithes (Plural) of the other tribes. So the tithe is not biblical, unless it is given to the Levites.

Before the Mosaic Law is implemented Abraham's grandson Jacob makes a freewill vow to God: "IF GOD"

Gen. 28:20 And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me, and (IF GOD) will keep me in this way that I go, and (IF GOD) will give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on,

21 So that I come again to my father's house in peace; then shall the LORD be my God:

22 And this stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God's house: and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto thee.

(NOTE: Jacob's proposition is "IF GOD" meet's Jacob's requirements. He will give God back 10%.)

Point: this was a freewill 10% offering. And only made on the increase of things already in Jacobs possession. NEVER on something future, like an unearned paycheck.

No Mosaic Law, no Levitical Priests, no local Churches. So, how or to whom did Jacob tithe?

Two different way's:

Deut. 12:6 & 7 & 14:29
12:6) Bring your freewill offering, (7) have a communion meal with God/Christ.

(14:29) Now freely share/give to the, poor, the stranger, the fatherless & the widow. And God will bless you in all the work of thine hand.

Tithing has never been taught to be money in the scriptures. Tithing has put people under bondage and a lot of people need to be set free from the bondage law of 10%. Most people cannot afford to give 10% of their paycheck. They would not have time to count out 10% of all their perishable and nonperishable food items and bring them into Gods storehouse. The laws given to Moses in Leviticus 27 required all this. The storehouses that God was talking about was storing up food to feed the priest and scribes in the temple so they could be about those things of the Lord and not have to worry about what they should eat or how to provide food for themselves.

You can give 10% when you know the truth. When you do not know the truth and you are tithing because you are told to tithe this is called tithing under the Old Testament law. God does not honor this today. Just because we do not know the truth, this does not change God's word. We have all tithed. To this day has anybody ever showed you in the Bible where tithing is money? You have just taken mans word for it all these years.

The God I serve and read about in the Bible is not a God that would expect you to give the babies milk money to him. He would not expect your family to go without twenty dollars worth of food so you can give the last 20 to the church. Even the women with the two mites gave her last from the heart and not because she had to, but because she wanted to. If tithing meant money in today's world we would need ten or twelve banks just to hold our money. See, the over abundance is not happening. Tithing is nothing more than good intentions and good intentions do not get you your blessings. The only thing that is going to set you free is the truth of the word of God. Matthew 23:23 Woe unto you scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you pay tithe of mint and anise and cumin and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith; these ought to have been done and not to leave the other undone. See, the hypocrites do these things for show, but they do not give out of love. They give because they were told to do so.
