Our accounts....

I recently heard a brother explain why he did not believe in Limited Atonement, and I thought I would try to share it here and see what others may think.

As sinners we had an account that was loaded with debt...sin debt. That account was full for every person, but then Jesus died for the sins of men, for the world, paying the price of all this debt. (The question may arise here, if Christ died for ALL sin and the WORLD, then how is it that not all will gain eternal life. Stay with me.)

However, there was one sin for which God said there would be no forgiveness, and that would be denying the witness of the Holy Spirit...unbelief.

As believers, all our sin debt was paid, but through belief something happened...God counted us as righteous...much like HE did Abraham...because we believed Him, in the work of Christ on the cross. So, we are in Christ, performing good works in Him, and these works are being credited to our account. When God looks upon us, He sees that our sin-debt has been paid by the blood of of the Lamb, and He also sees our righteous acts in Christ, done through faith, and we are judged accordingly...by what we have done in Christ.

Those who never accept Christ, however, still have unbelief to account for, and they can not be given credit for any good works at all, because the good they think they may have done was not the lasting work of Christ done in faith.

thats pretty much how it reads in the bible. there is little choices that way Salvation by good deeds is not gonna get you pardoned because only faith in Jesus with wipe the slate clean before the father.

Chris, I'm curious, would you say that not only did Jesus die for ALL, but also that our works are part of our justification through faith?

Jesus died to give an opportunity to every person to believe and accept salvation.

Works are evidence of a god like lifestyly change. I know some like to think so but Jesus didn't die for the chosen ones only, it was an opportunity for all men to take. if it wasnt for all men he wouldn't have told us to share the story.

Once the opportunity is taken and one becomes a believer sin is wiped away then. I was agreeing with what you wrote as in your comment.
