Cooking makes me cry.

No.
Really.

So how do YOU peel onions?

Any good tips?

We food lovers are waiting for your reply.....!

Hmmm. Not too many interested in peeling onions....
And yet they need to be peeled.

So, for those of us who MUST peel onions...here are two ways how:

And,,,here's the other way (which I like better)

Have Fun!!

The second video is the way I dice them but I peel them first. Something I found that helps with the tears is after I peel the onions I rinse them under cold water before I dice them.

You can't go wrong with Gordon Ramsay - he's British! :woot3
He's very experienced and talented.

The second video is also informative.

Good.

Another idea is to keep them in the fridge.
Peel them asap after they get taken out of the cold.

You're a bit prejudiced....!
But, yes, I agree with you fully.
He's a great chef.

How about Jamie?
I love how he cooks.
:)
It's rare we get the opportunity to state something good has left our sandy shores.
I'm not a huge fan of Jamie Oliver; don't get me wrong, he's a great chef. His Christmas shows are always enlightening.

You don't care for Jamie!!
Pray, tell...why?

He cooks good solid food, tastey and pretty easy to make.
I know he makes the meal on TV in 30 minutes, but that's because he has everything prepared...something we women folk are not privy to...

I'm not sure, I've just never liked watching him cook.
I've eaten in his restaurants in London, and they're fantastic!

When I was a teenager I was already big into my culinary career.
The Snake River Stampede (fall state fair and rodeo) was underway and I got a job working a couple of shifts there for some pocket money.
The place I worked for made basic hamburgers and fries...but their advertising was the smell of cooking onions. Not a handbill one.

They threw me into a closed up prep tent with 200lbs of onions, paring knife, and a smasher dicer. (Put onions in sideways and smash the onion through the blades)

My shirt was soaked with my tears by the time I was through peeling and dicing the batch. Nose was running nonstop too.

After that episode I have never had a problem again...although everyone else around me is crying and sniffling...I just chuckle and claim they are wimps...but the truth is something different. I just got so exposed to the stuff that today my immunity is really high

There ya go!
Just don't go near the kitchen when you go to one of his restrnts!

Wish I could make another trip to London....
And one to France...
Gosh I love good food.

Gee John.
I don't know if I should laugh OR CRY!!

Before my hubby got sick, he'd chop the onions for me...I cry like I can't tell you. I keep running to the front door with a towel in my hands to breath in the fresh air....and I keep the onions in the fridge! I also try holding my breath but I think that's dangerous.....:rofl2

And I live HERE....need I say more?
Oh...and ya gotta love when I make french pizza!!
(which ain't often)
Ain't?

Dear food lover, I never cry when I peel or slice or even chop up onions. For some reason I am gifted with the not crying gift when I peel, slice, or chop white onions only. Maybe with all of these years of onion peeling experiences and episodes I am immune to this effect or it could simply be that I just don't react as I do to yellow onions. They really make me sniff, cry, and sometimes sneeze. Of course, I often sneeze anyway. It doesn't take much anymore. Crying..another thing when it comes to cooking. Love those white onions. I used them a lot so buy bags usually containing 4 or 5 at our farmer's market near here. They keep a long time if kept relatively cool. Also good to freeze and then use for soups, etc. when cooking.

Ah, maybe that is what happened to me although yellow onions still make me cry. Whites don't but years ago they did. hmmmm I do learn something new on this forum almost every day. :)
