Thank you to everyone who prayed. It really means a lot! I had my first photo session and submitted the final photos to the client and they were very happy with it. I know God and your prayers were helping me. I couldn't have done it on my own. So thank you so much!

Done. :pray

...and, congratulations on joining the world of the elite self-employed. My dad had his own plumbing business since I was a kid and he taught me a lot about business. He said, even a bad business, is better than a good job. And consequently, I have been self employed for most of my life. And now, after all these years of being self employed, I can say with a certainty, that he was right.

Eons ago, when I was just starting up, I read that...worldwide, only 6% of people were business owners. So 94% of the world population, works for someone else. I started in business (above the board) before the advent of the internet, so I'm sure the statistics have changed somewhat since then. But you're prolly still in the top 10% of the worldwide population even now.

Some observations that I learned over time and may help you, are...

Being your own business owner will prolly not make you rich, but everyone will think that you are rich. You may have more cash flow, but you also have more bills.

It will be either feast or famine was my experience. At times you will be flush, other times of the year you may be paying bills on the shut off notices! so identify your slow seasons and prepare for them.

(My dad taught me)...do not worry about the money. If you do good work, the money will take care of itself...(so true!).

Be very choosy who you extend credit too! My experience was that, poor people have a lot more honor than the rich educated types. It was the doctors, lawyers and professional people that were the hardest to get paid from. True that!

That you are on a Christian forum board asking for prayers indicates that you are Christian and walk with the Lord. Good. Understand that (scripture says) we are to do our work as unto the Lord...as if we were working for Jesus and not strangers. Remember that! It is true! and do not hesitate to ask Him for help with even menial tasks that are job related. He will help you!

my advice is to not try to expand too fast, nor operate on credit accounts. Pay cash as you go along. Take down payments if you have to. I am in the trades (Plumbing/Heating& A/C/Electrical etc..) and before I went on my own, I worked for different companies, from 1 or 2 man shops all the way up to 150 employee shops, and I saw...that at about a 5 to 6 man shop, it gets hard to manage the employees and theft from employees gets out of hand. o, when it was time that I needed to put on more employees...I wanted it to stay manageable and not get stolen bind, so instead of hiring on more people...I simply raised my prices. That kept it manageable for me. Something to keep in mind.

Do not let people jew you down on your pricing. They will try for a nice discount on the promise of sending you a lot more business...Don't do it! It's a ploy. I told people no discounts on the first job, and later we could talk about discount pricing for a certain amount of work...depending on how much work they can really send.

Good luck Sister!
