i've not felt at home in my denomination since i can remember and almost feel uncomfortable to a degree when i go to church... i was wondering if anyone knew of any good ideas or even websites to research other options? i feel badly thinking about changing to a different church but... its hard when a service isn't providing for you what you are aiming to get out of it, you know?

thanks

Katie

My first question would be, is it a doctrinal matter or just a matter of being bored.

Secondly, I would ask what are you doing to serve the church? If you are leaving because it is stale or your bored, then it is time for you to give people a good kick in the pants, not just leave.

I have had the exact same problem, but I stayed and forced myself into service. It payed off, I love the congregation I'm involved with.

Don't take this as an attack, I just don't know the reasoning behind why you want to leave. I definately agree if they have major doctrinal problems, I just don't know.

I agree with Knarf in that you should generally leave a church only when it's teachings are against (or not including all of) Scripture. I would also like to say that there are times when God does move people. Sometimes it may be that people need a change of scenery and to be shaken out of their "box". Maybe God has a pastor or other person at another church that He wants to use to teach you something.

I also want to throw out an awesome revelation that my mom learned back when she was a practicing Catholic. She had really been into her faith and beliefs for several years when things just started to get stale. She finally got a bit worried and talked to one of the priests and said that she just felt like she's not getting anything out of the services anymore. He replied with "it's not what you get out of church, but what you bring to it that is important!" This is a powerful truth. The amazing thing is that when you give much into the ministry and service of the church, then all the sudden you start to get much back out of your ministry and service.
