I show high usage of pulseaudio when I look at system monitor actually it says very high usage. All other usages are normal. When I look at installed software it is not installed. maybe it could be under something else; dont know.
when I click on it ( while in system monitor ) it says if I stop it it will cause problems.
confused how can it Not be installed and yet running high usage and if I stop it it can
cause problems?

It is there because that is the sound system on your unit by default. I have never turned my audio off but that is what will happen if you shut down the Pulse AQudio. Mine, also, says the usuage is very high and it runs like a top. I am running 16.04 but the two things that consume power are your video and your audio.

I have not had any problems with my computer either and I use 16.4 also. I said that but I meant with audio/visual I do have a quirk in Libre Office. I do not think this pulse audio affects LO. thanks for the information I did not know it was default; seems it would be under installed software though. any way thank you and I will nt worry about ny pulse audio.

Hello, calvin here.
I'm running Linux Mint 17.3 (64bit)
With Mint which is very very similar to Ubuntu, my pulse audio is sleeping (at the moment) it is the priority that is very high, all other processes are normal. Why this should be is just one of those interesting little things to keep us awake nights wondering.
Would you recheck your system monitor and check that the 'very high' is under the priority column or not?

You are right.

G'day, calvin here.
Yep it is in the priority column, which just means (who knows what??) it has a very high priority as opposed to normal priority, but nothing to do with actual cpu usage.
At the end of the day, just don't worry about it:coke
thanks you know Libre office well?

thanks you know Libre office well?
Hello, calvin here.
That would be relative.
I know my way round Libre office writer to an extent, to a lesser extent Libre office calc. Did set up a fancy spread sheet for the local Church's accounts, I used some nested if then else arguments to manage different funds within the one account.
Being Autocad proficient I could probably find me way around Libre office draw.
What I can not do is write a macro...never felt the need to learn how.
Never had need of mail merge, though I know what it is supposed to do.
So my best reply would be a cautious "why not post what you want to know and if not I then someone else might help"
So I don't know if this reply is helpful or not:sorry

I have some doc saved as odt and some saved as doc if I make a change in a doc and it save changes the pop up window
comes up and gives two options save as odt or save as doc, sometimes. Other times the pop up save as window pops up
and is totally blank it shows nothing inside the pop up window. I have found that if I go to bottom right where it should show (save as word doc ) the it will actually save the doc even though the pop up window is actually blank ( no text at all in pop up window )

G'day roro, calvin here.
That sounds pretty normal. If you have .doc document open and you make changes to it, the program will offer to convert your document to ODT format when you want to close it or save it.
As for the occasional blank drop down window, I suspect that might happen when you have been dragging the window about on your screen. In Libre office writer, the save format window has a large blank area before you begin to see save options...why that is I have no idea. There would be a little black triangle at the top and bottom of the window that allows you to scroll down or up so the format option you want is displayed.
hope this helps.

It has been my experience that when I open a MS Document, make changes, and move to save it, the save window is blank except there is a mixture of odt and doc in the folder, the Save Window shows empty or blank because the default save is found displayed and the location, usually and external drive, can, immediately be populated by changing, just below the frame, from the default to the .doc format.

All my documents, some .doc and some .odt some docx ( earlier I said odt but it is odf ) open ( even the new douments ) a full screen and I leave it full screen mostly some time I may close or minimize; so for me it can not be moving it around on screen; But I have not paid enough attention to see the triangle you mention so I think you may be right it could need to be scrolled. thanks
