So it's pumpkin season again!

Up here at Tim Horton's in Canada they are making pumpkin-flavored muffins, which my wife likes; this is why I keep buying them.

Here's a link to a video about carving pumpkins, with presenter Bernadette Macias. Some of the carvings are amazing!

Are you serious?

Our family is packing up and getting as far away as possible from the occultish activities that permeate the air with this day. Never have been a fan of halloween, but when I was a kid it used to be about cowboys, astronauts, making a costume out of a cardboard box, etc. Now it is just one big zombie and ghouls fest. The real turning point with me was a few years ago walking into one of those halloween stores and seeing dead baby zombies and the children screaming because they were so freaked out.

Not for my family, never again.

I guess I was majoring on punpkin art (like in the video). I'm not for the occult, I hasten to add. My wife also likes pumpkin flavored muffins.

Blessings.

I don't know, I was kinda thinking of using pumpkins for the way God intended them to be used for...food.

I've seen enough midnight buffet's to know the art that can be used with food is incredible. But carving pumpkins at this time of the year just brings out some weird, uneasy feelings about it as the images associated with carving out a pumpkin tends to point to something dark and sinister.

Case in point with that video above.

So what is it about the video you don't like?

Well, what I do dislike is posting images that is satanic and occultish, and saying it is "art".

It isn't art, it's garbage.

while I am not big on hallow's eve. I can go either way. I will be carving me jack o lantern. no one is worshipping sam hain in the church these days. if it offends you then don't do it.

Ryan,
With all due respect, I understand that there are those that are against Halloween and yes, there are even those that are against Christmas. We see these every year on the forums.

We need to learn to give grace to one another in these disputable matters. The post is meant to be fun and artistic, not satanic as far as I can tell.

If you can find one offensive thing in the video, other than "You don't like it", I'll gladly have Farouk take it down.

I'm not sure of your time zone, but I'll be back tomorrow. Please PM me with your specific concerns and we will take it up tomorrow morning. I hope you can find the grace to do that.

With that, let's not have any arguing in this thread. Take it to a personal conversation if you feel that strongly.

Grace and Peace.

I should also tell Nathan and jaci(too young to undersand now) about Ireland and the history all hallows eve and also the druids. its been a while since I looked my irish past. my mom would love anything I find on the angry green island( that is what Ireland means) of course depending the source. the irish say its the green emerald colored island.

Ah yes, the Emerald Isle! :)

I don't think the pumpkin thing is as big there, though. It's more of a North American thing, I think.

(Even the guy that Nixon went after left secrets in a pumpkin...)

Blessings.

Anyway I like the bit in the video where the lady shows how to use a stencil to carve the pumpkin, using a series of dots. Kind of cool,...

I did some pumpkin carving last year for the first time...well, okay, I can recall doing it as a family a long time ago before my original parents divorced. But other than that.

I was actually able to do a decent job at it last year.
Looks like we'll be doing it again tomorrow, since like last year the homeschooling group is having another costume party. Should be fun! I get to wear my cosplay there and this time they'll be having a contest for the best costume.

For the record, my family doesn't really celebrate halloween and we haven't for a long time. We do, however, attend fall festivals hosted by local churches, and watch "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!" every year as some sort of family tradition.
And maybe this year we'll get to keep the pumpkin I carve, too. (Last year we had to share pumpkins since there wasn't enough for everybody. So there would be two of three carvings on each pumpkin and only some people got to bring it home.)

Yes, I thought the link about carving pumpkins would be of quite widespread interest. The lady presenter seems an arty sort of person with a flair for it.

Sounds like you too have quite a bit of experience carving, too. On the videoclip the lady uses the stencil method; so did you do this as well?

Blessings.

How cool! I never thought of using a stencil and marking the pumpkin by poking holes like that. Now I'm anxious to try it!

I believe it's next Sunday we are having some kind of celebration at my church. I'm going to try this and if I'm any good at it that'll be my donation to the party!

It wouldn't suprise me if the presenter does tours of churches in her area to demonstrate it during Friday suppers in fall, or whatever...

Blessings.
