That is pretty darn thought provoking. My first instinct when I read your post was to think, well no, the more I learn about the Lord, the more i learn what a nice person He is and He prolly wouldn't command us to do it but ask us...but then I thought, hmmm but we have already given our life to Him and committed our heart and Spirit to serving Him...so in that light, perhaps He would just command us or send us.

I have heard testimonies of BAC who were simply translated somewhere to do something, and it came as a total surprise to them, but they knew what they were to do once they arrived at the new location. They just knew it. So that wasn't exactly asking them to do a mission now was it?

See? You messed me all up on this, Sister Lol. This was kind of a trick question that I posted. I was pondering after all this is said and done and I go to Heaven, How will I be serving the Lord? And if He asked me to go do a particular thing somewhere and what it might be? As I pondered this, The thought(s) entered my head...on earth as it is in Heaven...and that, I. Am. Already. here. Doing. This. Thing. For Him, right now! That kind of blew my mind when I thought it.

I have heard quite a few people over time, here and there, make the statement, I didn't ask to be born here...and, maybe maybe not but the Lord taught me awhile back that we at least agreed to be born here into the specific family and circumstance and life that we live here. (I've mentioned this on the board before, and not a lot if any people agreed with me). So I'm not being dogmatic about this, I merely wondered what types of responses that I would get with this question from Brothers and Sisters!

I do believe it, personally. Not that I have studied it, there's not much to study about it. One scripture says He knew us before we were in the womb, and that made me think so our spirit and consciousness was alive before birth here. I did pray about it, and He told me yes. No one else agreed with me, and I prayed more about it! And He continues to tell me the same thing! That we did agree to come be born into our life circumstance.

Please remember that I am not being dogmatic here. I dunno, I just seem to come up with some strange questions sometimes, and if that turns out to be true, then it mean that our memory is being restrained from us...but that would set the stage for the child like faith that He wants us to have, would it not? So it makes some sense to me. And all that aside, those musings made me think that this would be a cool question to ask to see the responses to it!

But you might have blew me out of the water, lol. But on the other hand...did you? Because now, Romans 8 came into my mind...

29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.

31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?.../

So maybe I did hear correctly and we did agree? I do try to read His word with a childlike faith and even not fully understanding, just believe what He said and receive it. We don't really have to be able to understand Godto believe in what He says, just believe it as a child would. And how many people do that? Not many I think.

Maybe...just maybe, the Lord has already asked us to do a mission for Him and that is where we are now?! I wondered if anyone might answer, That is what we are doing right now.

Well I agreed with some of that, but what does BAC stand for? :confused

Good answer. That's how I feel. The Lord is teaching me so very much lately! It is bizarre and awesome! Lately he's teaching me that we have so very much more authority (in Christ) than we realize and admit to ourselves! And I believe it too. It is true!

Never feel inadequate or incompetent as this is only unbelief that Satan is trying to put in your mind so he can quench the word of God that is already in you. Gods’ power and authority in your life will bring you to places you only dreamed of and were afraid to go to. It’s Gods strength within us through the Holy Spirit that gives us the freedom and privilege to take his gospel where it needs to go in the timing and purpose of Gods ministry in another’s life that needs to hear the good news of Gods salvation.

Maybe it would be more like a command than a question. Not "Will you?" but "go there, do this." Then the Holy Spirit may take a willing person over?
I suppose it's like saying 'How much do you love the Lord?" And I don't know
Peter told Jesus he would die for Him and then he denied Him 3 times. But what a difference after Pentecost! The Holy Spirit took over. They were all too scared until then.

God doesn't want our ability, but wants our availability. He already knows we have the ability or else He would not call us to go.

I guess I also just feel like the Lord would never choose me for a mission because of the fact that although it's common knowledge that He loves everybody I still feel quite distant from Him and it's really rather difficult for me to feel it at times. :sad

You feel distant because you lack a proper fellowship with Him, even though you love God. You have recognized this in yourself so it is up to you to draw closer to Him.

This is all our mission as a true child of God. Even where we are right now, doing it right now. Even in this forum that reaches out to the whole world and every nation via the internet. All of us are taking His word out into the world, even though many feel inadequate to do so, but yet unaware that every time you speak of God, post scriptures and give testimonies you are bringing the Gospel of grace to the world.

Matthew 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Examples
To the apostles "Follow Me"
To disciples "pick up your cross daily"
Mary had a big mission, she wasn't asked, she was told what would happen.
The rich man was told to sell all he had and give to the poof.
Paul was told where to go.
Philip was told where to go.
Abraham was told to sacrifice his son.
None of them were asked, it was a matter of obedience, and God's choice.

There are other examples in the bible where God gave a comand but those who were told didn't listen. There was the first king of Judea when Judea and Israel split. There was also Jonah when God sent him to prophesy to enemies of Israel, and Jonah went the other direction.

I agree with Tessa that this is a point of obedience a lot of times.

Everything Jesus says is a command..not a suggestion..

That's true,He is God and will do what He will when He wills to do it. Now remember, I am not being dogmatic. I am just what if'ing, we're in the Lounge. Ok, that said..

I read your post several minutes ago and have been thinking about it. And...Remember scripture...I could say, yeah, but that is after they agreed and became believers! And Philip comes to mind. Philip wasn't told what was going to happen as he finished Baptizing the Ethiopian. He was just, Swish! and 25-30 miles away in another town. And Jesus...How did He talk to people? If they were His Apostles or followers, He did command them around, however, the non-believers who were not HIs followers...He took a different tone with! and didn't really command them around.

I dunno. This is a vague subject. I am kind of still trying to digest that, we are seated in Heavenly places with Him...and undoubtedly conscious. But we in the flesh can not perceive that we are there. I think it would have to be that our spirit is there, and our soul is here in the flesh. The spiritual realm or Kingdom realm if you will, seems to have...different laws of operation, or physics or whatever. Spirits can be in more places than one at the same time...and even join with other spirits...(and presumably become stronger as a whole?)

And scripture says that the Holy Spirit will come to us, and bear witness with our spirit, but not the soul which is in the flesh and so we do not get to hear that, what He says to our spirit!

This stuff is tough! It's like a Sci-Fi movie or something. Wow.

I see you've been searching around this from all different angles, putting new slants on it too. I like it

Alright, what about the (kind-of) flip-side of this question. What about when you are waiting for God to send you somewhere or point you in the direction of where you should go, but instead you're getting silence and dead-ends every which way you turn and you feel like you might lose your mind if something doesn't change soon?

and, btw, this is totally hypothetical and not my current situation at all ;)

There could be a few reasons for God's silence that we might not understand. You might not be seeking His will for yourself as you are to hurried, but not yet equipped. You are looking for grander ways to serve the Lord thinking you should go here or there, but He only simply wants you to love Him and love others as that in itself is part of His ministry like that of Matthew 25:31-40.

Not everyone is called to go beyond their own backyard, but yet the mission field can be our own backyard.
