The crusaders sure didn't behave better than the ones they fought.
The crusades were acts of war intended to take back from the Muslims the lands which the Muslims took by war, slaughter, pillage, enslavement, etc. Islam is spread by wars of conquest. Christianity is spread by preaching the Gospel of peace.
The inquisition... well, we all know how they worked "for God".
The use of torture was a standard procedure in Europe in the middle ages. The inquisition limited torture to one session of not more than 15 minutes.
No where in the New Covenant, the basis for Christian belief and praxis, is torture or any form of violence prescribed.
It is normative for Islam according to the Koran. http://www.thereligionofpeace.com/pages/quran/violence.aspx

Your arguments are specious. Christianity is nothing like Islam.

Don't put words in my mouth.....

I never said Christianity is like Islam

I am saying that many "Christians" are / were as bad as / worse than the muslim terrorists

Don't put words in my mouth.....

Two reasons: (1) Many, many "Christians" aren't Christians. (2) Human nature rears its head within Christianity as elsewhere.

I happen to have just been reading an article about the "dharma heirs" of some notable Zen roshis. The basic idea is that the "Buddha mind" has been passed on through the centuries from the Buddha to a succession of enlightened masters (roshis), who then pass it on to their most enlightened disciples. The disappointing focus of the article was the staggering corruption associated with this practice, both in terms of appointing completely unqualified people as dharma heirs as well as the financial and sexual scandals that have destroyed Zen communities. In other words, enlightened Buddhists are as plagued by human nature as are Christians.

One would like to think the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, if genuine, would make Christian individuals and communities easily distinguishable from their Buddhist, Islamic and Hindu counterparts. The fact that they aren't easily distinguishable brings us back to point #1 - much of "Christianity" simply isn't Christian. The fruit of the Spirit simply isn't there.

I don't think the travesties committed in the name of Christianity really say much of anything at all about Christianity. Real Christianity, I believe, exists on a much smaller scale than "Christianity" would like to believe. I join with Kierkegaard and Tolstoy in believing "Christianity" bears almost no resemblance to what Jesus was talking about.

Christianity is indeed "like" Islam in the sense that both, by their natures, are easily perverted into grotesque caricatures of the real thing. One doesn't hear much about Buddhist or Hindu terrorists because, unlike Christianity and Islam, these religions don't have the extreme "us vs. them" mentality that is easily perverted into a grotesque and destructive caricature. With both Christians and Islam, the "them" is the entire rest of the world. When the Christian "them" specifically becomes Muslims, and the Muslim "them" specifically becomes Christians, as is the case now, the situation is inevitably going to be explosive. As the saying goes, one man's terrorist is another man's freedom-fighter.

There are extremists in Hinduism and buddhism. The west doesn't focus on it.but both kill muslims and Christians

I do see that there have been increasing references to "Buddhist terrorism" and "Hindu terrorism" in recent years, but this appears to have different roots from Christian and Muslim extremism, and there is considerable debate as to whether the term "terrorism" is appropriate at all. Much of it seems to be political and ethnic rather than religious in motivation. And much of it seems attributable to the same thing we have with "Christianity" - sincere followers of the religions would say, "These people aren't really Buddhists or Hindus at all." Anyway, I do take your point, but I still believe there is a fundamental difference between religions such as Buddhism and Hindu and religions such as Christianity and Islam, the latter of which see it as their divine mission to win the world for their God. It seems undeniable to me that Christianity and Islam are more readily perverted into grotesque caricatures. (I realize many Christians insist that what I am calling a grotesque caricature of Islam is in fact the true kill-all-the-infidels Islam, but I know a bit about the religion and simply don't believe this is true.)

By saying that, you diminish the very real contrast between the Muslim worship of the god of murder, rape, pillage and war; Allah and the worship of the God who commanded his followers to lover their enemies.
Christians have not made it their practice to wage a 1400 year long holy war against the rest of the world.
Christians have not made the word "terrorism" essentially synonymous with "Islam."

buddhism gave rise to imperial japan,
FYI: Imperial Japan was Shinto, not Buddhist. :shrug
"In modern scholarship, the term is often used with reference to kami worship and related theologies, rituals and practices. In these contexts, "Shinto" takes on the meaning of "Japan’s traditional religion", as opposed to foreign religions such as Christianity, Buddhism, Islam and so forth." Inoue Nobutaka, Shinto, a Short History (2003) p. 1
