Hi - I read a lot and I've studied portions of the Bible a lot over my life but I've never read the whole Bible cover to cover. So starting tomorrow I'm going to follow one of the many guides you can find online with reading goals.
Any one want to join me?

I'm going to use this one - https://www.backtothebible.org/one-year-reading-plans
and follow the Chronological path.
No one has to do the same. We can use this thread to check in on progress and encourage each other.

I'm going to be reading the KJV version. But I'm there are plans out there that cover any version. Like I said, we don't all have to do the same and it might even be fun if everyone is reading different parts of the Bible in a given week.

Umm,.. I'm actually one step ahead of you. I'm currently about halfway or maybe even possibly more than halfway through it. :readbible (I use the Message version btw. :bible )

amen - joining you all

So I caught up but now I'm a day behind again! Eeek!
I'm doing the chronological one, so I'm in Job, which is a tough read.
Job is very interesting - the guy is a righteous guy - always wanting to do what is right - but he is concerned about his children - because they party too much - and he's afraid they might get drunk and curse God - not sure why he thinks that might happen but that is his fear

satan brings up job to God and says the only reason job is so righteous is because you bless him - if you would stop blessing him he would not be so righteous - which never worked out for satan because job never did curse God no matter what happened to him

in the end job's friends insist job must have been living unrighteously for all these bad things to happen to him - and God tells them He is angry with the friends for saying this to job - so job gets back double of everything he had and is twice as blessed

I've been thinking about this until I have made my head hurt about why Job would continue to bless God after all of those bad things happened to him and the only reason I can come up with is because in the end, he still had air in his lungs to breathe which is what I always tell myself whenever I have a bad day. :)

Jobs friends aren't great friends. I was familiar with the story but never really read the full thing. Its amazing to think that Job didn't have the Bible not even an old testament but his Faith in an unseen God was stronger than most people (me included).
I also like the references to the Redeemer. I read 33:24 the grace and the ransom that can save us from the pit. Jesus was always the plan.

wow - i like that - you picked out some really awesome points i hadn't thought of

somehow job knew that God was his redeemer and somehow he had a relationship with God

i suppose all the prophets david enoch and others had the same kind of relationship with God

it says enoch walked and talked with God and God was so pleased that He took him - and it says david sang praise to God all day while tending sheep

there is a scripture about men calling on the name of the Lord so somehow from adam and eve on there were people who were calling on the name of YHVH - Genesis 4:26

I've thought about that several times, and the words in The Lord's Prayer " Hallowed be Thy Name " How wonderful it will be when all angels and all mankind are praising God's name. Everyone will be filled with joy and happines, and all will marvel at the Lord.
Job Is a great example - such patience and loyalty.
