This discussion is a study of the biblical term “Receiving the Holy Spirit”.

I would encourage anyone who desires to grow and be filled with the power to live and be a witness for Christ, as well as receive a spiritual language for personal edification, and devotion, whether for prayer or worship, to ask the Father for this wonderful gift.

Jesus calls this gift, The Promise of the Father, and its for all born again Christians who desire it.

And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me; for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.” Acts 1:4-5

For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.” Acts 2:39

Some have tried to shed doubt on this baptism claiming it was just for a few select Christians and is somehow, for whatever reason, not for the Church today.

I ask each person to read and address the scriptures given and pray and ask God for yourselves to confirm this message.

Amen

“Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?”

And it happened, while Apollos was at Corinth, that Paul, having passed through the upper regions, came to Ephesus. And finding some disciples he said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?”
So they said to him, “We have not so much as heard whether there is a Holy Spirit.”
And he said to them, “Into what then were you baptized?”
So they said, “Into John’s baptism.”
Then Paul said, “John indeed baptized with a baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe on Him who would come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.”
When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they spoke with tongues and prophesied. Acts 19:1-6

  • And when Paul had laid hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they spoke with tongues and prophesied.

Then they laid hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.

Now when the apostles who were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them, who, when they had come down, prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit. For as yet He had fallen upon none of them. They had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then they laid hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit. Acts 8:14-17

  • For as yet He had fallen upon none of them. They had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified. John 7:37-39

  • But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive;

This gift is for those who believe.

He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.

The Spirit flows forth with evidence that is seen and heard.

  • Therefore being exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He poured out this which you now see and hear.
    Acts 2:33

This is the Promise of the Father and is for all whom the Lord calls out of darkness into His marvelous light.

For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.” Acts 2:39

Ask and you shall receive.

If a son asks for bread from any father among you, will he give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent instead of a fish? Or if he asks for an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!” Luke 11:11-13

  • how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!

I have received the Holy Spirit. It was the greatest gift I have ever been given. The first month it filled me with euphoria. People said I was manic from the joy I was receiving and it frightened them. When I calmed down a little I was called to serve God by working with children. The most amazing part was a new confidence in the scripture and Jesus Christ. I had spent so many years loving God but being unsure about Jesus. Now that is all behind me.

You know a tree by its fruit. You know the Holy Spirit has come by the ways you have changed. I went from being anti-social to being friendly. I was no longer afraid. I came to believe that Jesus died on the cross for my sins and was resurrected. Here is a list of changes that took place in me.

1. I saw clearly for the first time.
2. I knew a new freedom and a new happiness.
3. I did not regret the past nor wish to shut the door on it.
4. I comprehended the word serenity and knew peace.
5. Despite all the sins I had committed, I could see how my experiences could benefit others.
6. My feelings of uselessness and self-pity disappeared.
7. I lost interest in selfish things and gained interest in others.
8. My self-seeking slipped away.
9. My whole attitude and outlook upon life changed
10. My fear of people and of economic insecurity left me.
11. I intuitively knew how to handle situations which used to baffle me.
12. I suddenly realized that God is doing for me what I could not do for myself.
13. When it came to Christ I felt:
⋅ Courageous, when before they I terrified;
⋅ I felt guided, when before I felt lost;
⋅ I felt loved, when before I felt abandoned;
⋅ I felt wise, when before I felt confused;
⋅ I felt hopeful, when before I felt despair;
⋅ I felt as if I was at the start of a glorious new journey, when before I felt near death.
