Is anyone here either of these? I am currently in the RN program, but thinking of switching to LPN.

RN or LPN

Nikki,

I am a Registered Nurse. I live in near Denver, CO. I would suggest to you that you stay in the RN program. You can only go so far as an LPN. :-D. I work in a hospital on a telemetry unit and at 2 Home Health Agencies.

I have been an RN for almost 4 yrs. and I was a CNA for 11 yrs. before that. I'm not sure if you are feeling scared of the idea of making important decisions or not, but in the long run and with experience this will get better. I know what I am talking about.

I strongly recommend that you stay the course and continue. LPN's in most places I have worked are treated like "glorified CNA's". You will make better money as an RN and will be able to do much more to help others.

I have wanted to be an RN since 1989. I finally became one in 2001, it has been everything I have ever dreamed it would be. It is hard work, but I have loved it still.

God has given me so many times to minister to people and pray for the sick, fearful and depressed.

You can make really good money, have respect and feel good about what you are doing all in one.

I encourage you to stay in the program...no matter how tough it is!

Nikki,

Try really hard to stay with the RN program...it is true that you
will have more options once you are finished. I have been working
as an RN for 15yrs and have been able to find a lot of differnt types
of work as an RN...the last thing I did that I thought was great was
audit pt charts for charging errors!! The company I worked for
needed and RN to do this that understood operating room procedure.

Good luck to you and if I can be of assistance at any time pls
let me know. Continue to ask God for the strength and
perseverance that is needed to complete your studies.

I'm currently preparing to start a program to become an RN-BSN. I used to work as CNA and I just recently finished a Medical Assistance program. To answer your question i would have to know what it is you plan to do in the Health profession.

I am currently able as a MA to perform phlebotomy, EKGs, Medical Billing/coding, and triag in many different health care settings. Although I would like to become an RN because they have wider scope of providing care and treatment to patients.

RN's have more duties with patients than most other health care personal in my opinon besides therapist. The pay is well and the demand is high. Hope that helps..;)

I am not an RN, but am working toward an MD. I would advise you to finish your RN program. With an RN, there are many opportunities to advance your career. If you wanted to advance yourself as an LPN, you would have to go back to finish your RN anyway.

elizabeth: So you're going to be a Doctor Braddock?

Sounds very good. I hope you'll feel satisfied helping a lot of people, career-wise.

Blessings.

I agree with everyone else. I work at a hospital, and there is a very strong push for RN's. There are only a few LVN's here, and all of them have been put under some pressure to enroll in a bridge program to cross over into RN.
