I didn’t read anything in these first five chapters, which covered many things, and seem to be prioritized by importance, about a requirement to observe the Sabbath (especially as required by the law).

Are you talking about the Didache or one of the links?
It's in chapter 14 of the Didache...but you're not going to find a specific requirement.

I'm going to shut down now.....
but if you do read chapter 14 in the didache,,,let me know what you think.
'night.

Chapter 14 —

And on the Lord’s own day gather yourselves together and break bread and give thanks, first confessing your transgressions, that your sacrifice may be pure. And let no man, having his dispute with his fellow, join your assembly until they have been rec-onciled, that your sacrifice may not be defiled; for this sacrifice it is that was spoken of by the Lord; In every place and at every time offer Me a pure sacrifice; for I am a great king, saith the Lord, and My name is wonderful among the nations.

The same language is used in Acts 20:7 concerning the saints gathering together, to break bread...

Now on the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul, ready to depart the next day, spoke to them and continued his message until midnight.
Acts 20:7

The Sabbath is the Sabbath.

The Lord’s day is the first day of the week, the day He was resurrected.

I agree that The Lord's Day is 99% Sunday.

What about the fact that it's a commandment?
Does it make sense to you that we don't need to adhere to it because it was a
CEREMONIAL LAW and NOT A MORAL LAW??
(ceremonial laws have been abolished)

I think this would justify Sunday worship, no matter what.

What commandment are you referring to?

One person esteems one day above another; another esteems every day alike. Let each be fully convinced in his own mind.
Romans 14:5

What sense does it make to cause people to work on the Sabbath.

Pastors and Teachers who work in the full time ministry, together with support staff, should rest on the Sabbath, not work.

The early Church would gather on the Lord’s day, the first day of the week.

Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given orders to the churches of Galatia, so you must do also: On the first day of the week let each one of you lay something aside, storing up as he may prosper, that there be no collections when I come. 1 Corinthians 16:1-2

This would probably be a better topic for a new thread but I saw you use this phrase twice so I'm curious. Were the ceremonial laws abolished or fulfilled? I ask because Jesus said He didn't come to destroy (abolish) the law but to fulfill it.

Amen. Jesus did fulfill the law, which is why it was abolished.

“Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled.
Matthew 5:17-18

I believe we all agree that Jesus did what He said He came to do... fulfill the law.

The next verse teaches what occurs when it is fulfilled.

  • one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled.

The law was not going to be abolished until it was fulfilled.

It has been fulfilled.

Paul says it this way —

What purpose then does the law serve? It was added because of transgressions, till the Seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was appointed through angels by the hand of a mediator. Galatians 3:19

Here we see this word “until” again, associated with the law.

By saying “until”, the Holy Spirit is Indicating the law was temporary.

having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. Colossians 2:14

For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation, having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace,Ephesians 2:14-15

The dividing wall of separation between Jew and Gentile was the law of Moses.

Jews were call “circumcised”

Gentiles were called “uncircumcised”

REMEMBER TO KEEP HOLY THE SABBATH.
This would be the commandment we're breaking.

The Sabbath is Saturday,,,which USED TO BE, the last day of the week.

I consider, now, Sunday to be the last day of the week...we rest on the last day,,,not on the first.
(although in the N.T. it is referred to as THE FIRST DAY OF THE WEEK).

WIP,
I'm sorry. Sometimes we get off-track and we don't realize how many posts are not on target.
I don't really care to discuss about the Sabbath since I worship on Sunday -- it's just an interesting topic.

But I WILL start a thread on the fulfillment of the law and the abolishment of the law.
I'll tag you in....But tomorrow. 7 pm now - dinner, and then I'll be too t ired.

I think it'll make a good thread.

The Sabbath is and always will be the seventh day of the week.

Sunday is the first day of the week.

JLB
Yes, this is correct.
What I meant is that Sunday should be the last day of the week.
We rest on the last day of the week, not on the first.
In another way of thinking, we could say that we start off the week by honoring God.

Could you share with us how we are instructed to go about keeping the Sabbath Holy, under the new covenant?
This is my opinion,,,I don't know for sure.

We keep The Lord's Day holy by going to church.
This is preferable and a good thing to do, even though I know not all of us
practice this, and, lately, neither do I.

I believe we should not do heavy work. I've never done real housework on Sunday,
just what is necessary.

Spending time with our family in some way and also visiting others; family or friends.

Just enjoying the day and really resting.

Hi JLB,,,,
While doing some learning in a different thread - the one about what it means to fulfill a law - I've come to the decision that the Sabbath was a ceremonial law and not a moral law.

This is why I have a bit of a problem with the O.T.
It can cause confusion.....
There it says that God gave the Sabbath to be a sign forever.
Exodus 31:13
13“But as for you, speak to the sons of Israel, saying, ‘You shall surely observe My sabbaths; for this is a sign between Me and you throughout your generations, that you may know that I am the LORD who sanctifies you.

also

Ezekiel 20:12
12“Also I gave them My sabbaths to be a sign between Me and them, that they might know that I am the LORD who sanctifies them.

It was a sign between God and the Israelites in the Mosaic Covenant.
But now that Covenant has been made better and we are under the New Covenant.

Since this is a Ceremonial Law, it no longer applies to us.

This is the conclusion I've reached.
I think I could be at peace about this now.

It's good to discuss different topics....
One topic may even allow us to understand a totally different topic, as in this case.
