This is another large study of mine and it was while I was studying on the Greek of Revelation, that I saw it was actually the Sanctuary and Golden Altar being measured [not the Temple<2411> around it].

First let me put up the 2 verses we shall be discussing
Translation taken from ISA Greek interlinear: https://www.scripture4all.org/

Revelation 11:
1 And was given to me a reed like-as rod saying "rouse! and measure!
the Sanctuary<3485> of the God and the Altar[Golden Altar] and those worshiping in it
2 and the Court/fold<833>[Priests/Lavar/Altar of Sacrifice] outside of the Sanctuary, be casting-out!<1544> out-side and no it thou should be measuring, that it was given to the Gentiles/Nations. And the holy City they shall be treading<3961> forty two months. [Luke 21:20, 24?]

Luke 21 also shows the Nations treading upon Jerusalem. [that can be for another thread]

Luke 21:
20 “But when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then know that its desolation has come near.
24 “And they will fall by the edge of the sword, and be led away captive into all Nations. [Revelation 13:10]
And Jerusalem will be trampled<3961> by Nations until the times of the Nations are fulfilled.” [Revelation 11:2]

I list a few Bible and translation sources I use at this thread for those interested:

This temple is not a literal temple that John is to measure as there never will be a third one built as the temple mount will never be given back to the Jews and here is the reason why. Jerusalem has been destroyed twice, besieged 23 times, attacked 52 times, and captured and recaptured 44 times all because Israel never repented of their sin of idolatry when they were allowed back into their land again in 538 BC after their seventy year Babylonian exile and the land fell under the leader of the Roman Empire that still has diplomatic ties with Jerusalem today.

When the second temple was destroyed in 70 A.D. by the Romans other Roman temples were built there and destroyed during various revolts up to the fourth century. From the fourth century the temple mount laid undeveloped until the Muslim Siege of Jerusalem in 637 CE. Between 689-691 CE the Muslims built the Dome of the Rock which stands today, but now under renovations that have to do with the prophecy of the son of perdition in 2 Thessalonians 2:2-4 and the great falling away before the return of Jesus.

John was to measure the Spiritual temple of God as being those who are truly in Christ through the Spiritual rebirth that worship Him in all truths, John 3:3-7, which make up the temple of God as being the body of Christ. The symbolic here represents God separating and protecting His people. The temple of God is no longer made by hand since the veil of the temple was torn from top to bottom, Matthew 27:50, 51; Acts 7:48-51. The temple of God is within man that has the indwelling of the Holy Spirit that keeps himself undefiled before the Lord, Matthew 27:51; Mark 7:15-23; 1 Corinthians 3:16, 17.

The outer court represents that of the control the Gentiles will once again have over the Holy city as they take full control over Jerusalem and trampled it for the last three and a half years of the seven years tribulation period. The first three and a half years begin with the opening of the seventh seal and the last three and a half beginning with the seventh trumpet as this explains the seven year tribulation that Jesus mentions in Matthew 24:21 as being the worst tribulation there has ever been nor will ever be again.

During this time once again the Roman Empire will take control of the temple mount in Jerusalem as a New World Order is even now being set up that will be one single world government of economic, political and religious power. They will bring back the sacrifices in the last part of the three and a half years or at the end of Daniels seventy week vision in Daniel chapter 9.

This sacrifice they make is not the sacrifice for the forgiveness of sin, but will be a sacrifice in that of persecuting Christians to death as they refuse to bow down to this Nebuchadnezzar type system. It’s like that of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego in Daniel Chapter 3 as they refused to bow down and worship the idols of Baal and God rescued them from the fire. The fulfillment of the times of the Gentile is that of the Gentiles that will not repent as they fulfill the prophecy of the beast and the false prophet that are thrown into the lake of fire with Satan at Gods final judgment.

Thank you for posting. The Sanctuary/Tabernacle could represent the Spiritual body, while the inner Court and Temple could symbolize the Fleshly/Earthly body.

According to much of the NT, including Revelation, it is many of the Jews that did not repent up to the event of 70ad, when God allowed the Roman army to utterly destroy Jerusalem and the Temple and Sanctuary [tho some/many did repent and convert]

Matthew 23:35 "So-that may be coming upon ye all just blood being poured out upon the land, from the blood of righteous Abel till of the blood of Zacharias, son of Barachias, whom ye murder/efoneusate <5407> (5656)
between the Sanctuary and the Altar[of sacrifice?] [that would be the Court of the Priest outside of the Sanctuary?]
==================
There is also a court of the High Priests mentioned. I couldn't find much info on this.

Mat 26:3 Then the chief priests and the elders of the people were gathered together in the court of the high priest, named Caiaphas;

There was also the Sanhedrin:

Matthew 26:59
Now the chief priests, the elders, and all the Sanhedrin<4892> sought false testimony against Jesus to put Him to death,

Paul is explicit concerning the Jewish Rulers killing Jesus and the vengeance coming up them 30yrs later in 70ad:

1 thess 2:14
14 For ye imitators were become brothers of the out-calleds of the GOD, the ones being in the Judea in Christ Jesus. That these suffered and ye by the own together-tribes, according as also they by the Judeans.
15 Of the also the Lord Jesus killing<615> and their own prophets, and us persecuting; and to God no pleasing and to all men against,
16 forbidding us to speak to the nations/gentiles that they may be being saved, into the to fill up of them the sins always.[Rev 9:21 Reve 18:5] Outstrips yet upon them the wrath into a finish/end/teloV <5056>.

James uses the word "murder",tho it was not the Jews that actually nailed Jesus to the Cross, rather He was given up to be crucified by the Romans........as prophecied in the Scriptures.

James 5:6 Ye condemn, ye murder/efoneusate<5407> (5656) the Righteous-One, not He is resisting to Ye.

Revelation 9:21 And not they reform out of their murders/fonwn<5408>, nor out from their sorceries,...........

Rev 18:5 for her sins have [fn]piled up as high as heaven, and God has remembered her iniquities.
=========================
Matthew 20:19 and they shall delivering up Him to the nations, to mock and to scourge and to crucify and to the third day He shall be being roused.

This verse in Matt 23 precedes Chap 24 of the O D. I don't believe Gentile Christians are delivered up to synagogues today.

Mat 23:34 “Therefore, indeed, I send ye prophets, wise men, and scribes: some of them ye will kill and crucify, and some of them ye will scourge in your synagogues and persecute from city to city,
===========
Mark 13:9 But take ye heed to yourselves: for they shall deliver you up to sanhedrins<4892> and in synagogues shall ye be beaten; and before governors and kings shall ye stand for my sake, for a testimony unto them
Luke 21:12 “But before all these things, they will lay their hands on you and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues and prisons. You will be brought before kings and rulers for My name’s sake
=============================
Jhn 12:42 Nevertheless even among the rulers many believed in Him, but because of the Pharisees they did not confess Him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue;
========================================
And these 2 verses concerning false Jews, which included the 1st century Jewish Rulers.

Revelation 2:
9 “I know your works, tribulation, and poverty (but you are rich);
and I know the blasphemy of those who say they are Jews and are not, but are a synagogue of Satan.
13 “I know your works, and where you dwell, where Satan's throne is. And you hold fast to My name, and did not deny My faith even in the days in which Antipas was My faithful martyr, who was killed among you, where Satan dwells.

Revelation 3:9 “Indeed I will make those of the synagogue of Satan, who say they are Jews and are not, but lie—
indeed I will make them come and worship before your feet, and to know that I have loved you.

Revelation 11:

Israel lost her right to be called Gods chosen people, (God did save a faithful remnant), as they fell into idolatry worshiping other gods as they allowed themselves to fall from Gods grace as they followed the lust of their own hearts as they practiced Judaism, 1 Kings 9:1-9. God’s judgment against them led them to be captured, 605 – 537 B.C., by Nebuchadnezzar and taken into Babylon for seventy years while Nebuchadnezzar’s army killed many Jews in Judah and Jerusalem destroying the whole city of Jerusalem including the first Temple that was built through King Solomon’s reign in Jerusalem.

The second Temple was built under Ezra’s leadership and Israel continued practicing Judaism and their Temple was desecrated as part of an effort to impose Greek-oriented culture and customs on the entire population. Roman rule refurbished the temple as Herod, Romans vassal king, rules the land of Israel. In 70 A.D. the Temple is once again destroyed. The Temple Mount was taken over in 691 A.D. as the Arab nation built the Dome of the Rock and there has not been any other Temple built since that time on the original Temple Mount.

God gave Israel 490 years to repent. They were set free from Babylon when the Medes and Persian conquered Babylon (Chaldean) around 538 B.C. They were allowed back in the land and to rebuild the city of Jerusalem, however, they still did not repent for their sin of idol worshiping and they continued to receive punishment from God as the kingdom was taken away and eventually taken over by the Roman Empire. Malachi Chapter 1-4.

The 490 years were up and many of the Jews not only did not repent but they killed the very Messiah they had been waiting for as well as in 24 A.D. they made an opened display of rejecting the Gospel message as they stoned Stephen being the final messenger that was sent to give them their last chance to repent. The Jews were now rejected as God’s chosen people and were no different from the Gentiles as from that time forth each individual, Jew and Gentile has to make their own decision to accept or reject Jesus as Lord and Savior, John 3:3-7; Romans 10:9, 10.

Great post and info.
The stoning of Stephen was indeed an important event in Acts. It is also where Saul/Paul is on the scene witnessing it.
Stephen actually sees the heaven opened up and Jesus standing at the right side of God [I would assume in judgement].
I love the book of Acts.........

John 10:33 the Judeans answered Him saying, "About a good work not we are stoning Thee, but about blasphemy, and that Thou, being a man, are making thyself a god". [Romans 2:23/Revelation 16:11,21]

Acts 6:10 And not they were strong to withstand to the Wisdom and to the Spirit to which he talked. [Revelation 12:8 "the Dragon"?]
Acts 7:1 And the High-priest said, "are these things so?"
54 Now when they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed upon him with their teeth.
56 and he said, "Look! I see the heavens having been opened and the Son of Man standing out of rights of the God!"
58 and they dragged him out of the city and began to stone him. His accusers took off their coats and laid them at the feet of a young man named Saul
59 And they stoned Stephen, and him calling upon the Lord saying, "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit"

=========================
I [and Josephus included] can view the "hailstones" in Revelation as the stones the Romans used to batter the walls of 70ad Jerusalem. [But that is for another topic..]

Revelation 16:21 and hail, great as a talent weight is descending out of the heaven/sky upon the men and the men blaspheme God out of the stripe/blow of the hail, that great is the stripe/blow of her, tremendous [John 10:33 Acts 7:58]
=============================
7 yrs [approx] Jewish Wars---- 66ad and ending with the takeover of the final Jewish Rebel stronghold, Masada 73ad [I posted a vid below on it for those interested]
Josephus -Now the stones that were cast were of the weight of a talent, and were carried two furlongs and further. The blow they gave was no way to be sustained, not only by those that stood first in the way, but by those that were beyond them for a great space. As for the Jews, they at first watched the coming of the stone, for it was of a white color, and could therefore not only be perceived by the great noise it made, but could be seen also before it came by its brightness;” (5:6:3)....

The Destruction of Jerusalem - George Peter Holford, 1805AD

............As a consequence, the legions were able to build their redoubts almost without any trouble; soon, their catapults started to throw heavy stones into the city. Under cover of this artillery fire, the Roman soldiers could start to bash the northern wall with their battering-rams.
==================================
In 73 AD Masada, the impregnable mountain fortress in the Judaean desert, stood as the final holdout against the onslaught of Rome’s legions. The siege that followed would mark the final, bloody suppression of the Jewish revolt with an encounter whose awe inspiring remains can still be seen in the desert today!

Blessings, Steve
