I personally wasn't a huge fan of it. That's mostly because as I mentioned before I was a bully target. Everybody around here can count on me for being truthful so I will say that even though I wasn't a huge fan of getting up early, (I have also mentioned before that I'm no early bird) I don't frown on education. Obviously you need to learn how to read, write, and use mathematics for your day to day life. What I do frown upon is forced unnecessary education. Like, who cares the state capitals that's why we have maps. ( which I strongly believe that you should also learn how to use. A GPS isn't always a hundred percent reliable) I don't remember all of the presidents of the United States and when they served and I survive just fine. Instead of forced unnecessary education (unless you are actually interested in that kind of stuff) they should start teaching you what you really know like how to treat people. We could definitely use a crash course on that. As well as Internet safety and just safety and common sense in general. I also firmly believe that religion should be allowed back into the schools as well. Sadly, now a days they try to remove religion out of every little thing and they are currently trying to remove the "One nation under God" thing even though America was founded on Christianity and is a pretty big thing in the states. Anyway, I guess they just assume that everybody is going to go to college and that's why they have to force all of the stuff that you don't really need to survive. I didn't go to college because I'm just simply not college material and I believe that that sort of thing should never be forced.

Our education system in not only about teaching what one needs to survive. It is about providing an education, introducing the students to a wide range of topics and giving them a little information about each. It stimulates the mind and gets people thinking. Imagine how difficult it would be to decide what career path to take if one knows absolutely nothing about anything? Even college doesn't specifically focus on teaching anything in particular.

A college professor one time put it to me in a way that makes perfect sense. At the time he was speaking about a college degree but in reality it applies to all education beginning in pre-school. He said, "College is not for teaching you a trade. College teaches you how to learn."

Ok, ok, I see your point. But I still don't think that learning should be forced on anybody that doesn't want to learn something that they completely aren't interested in. But instead provide them with the topics above that I mentioned that they might want to learn instead. Especially when it comes to religion. The US constitution clearly states that we are allowed our freedom of religious belifes, and I just want to point out that I believe the constitution and Bill of Rights is essential to learn to live in today's world as well.

The unbeliever school system will never teach children to respect the Bible. They don't believe in it.

I agree on the state capitals. I don't think that information came in handy even once. It would be better if schools taught useful skills to people. Not just employment skills, but things useful everyday at home too. Like how to keep your washing machine running. Also relationship skills. I think one reason for the divorce rate in the USA is that children are just not being taught how to get along. How to properly care for a relationship.

Back when children were raised by their parents, they picked up marital skills by watching their parents interact. Now they spend all day staring at a teacher who is not modeling how to properly interact with a spouse.

Not always true. I had an elementary school teacher who was a Christian. All I'm saying is that back in my day religion was an elective course. At least in middle school, but as far I know they removed anything having to do with God out of school today except for the pledge. We used to have prayer around the flagpole on September 11th too.

While there are a few Christians teaching in the unbeliever school system, the administrators don't allow them to teach the Bible nowadays. The hierarchy consensus just doesn't believe in it. You pretty much have to send your children to a Christian school, or home school them if you want them trained up in the way they should go.

Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6 NKJV

And that's exactly my point. Just because the majority of them are unbelievers doesn't mean they shouldn't allow it in school. I repeat our Constitution gives us the freedom of religion. We don't like evolution being shoved down our throats anymore than they like it when we shove our belifes down their throats. We are all given that choice of what we believe and it should be that way for the school system too.

I believe everyone needs an education as how would we ever learn the basics we need for life. I didn't like every class I attended way back in the day, but now looking back I know that certain ones did benefit me later on in life. We had the choice of Home Economics for those who wanted to learn how to be a good wife and mother. Industrial Arts for those who wanted to learn how to build things and Vocational Agricultural for those who were farmers. There was Music Education and different types of Math Education. Physical Education and Health Education. Language, Science and Social Studies. All very necessary for every walk of life. If you wanted to go to college then there were classes that prepared you for that.

Even today we have all of this in our schools which is much needed, but what has changed is not so much that they have taken God out of the school as He is still in the hearts of those students that know Him, but that there is no more discipline like there use to be. It's when they made the law that children are no longer allowed to be spanked when they misbehave is when we now have replaced that law with guns and drugs brought into the schools. If I would have ever had children I would have home schooled them as even many teachers have given up on certain kids and just pass them over as they don't want to be bothered with them. Over all, Education is what you want to get out of it for life skills.

And how is that beneficial in any way? Sure I believe that teachers should have guns to protect themselves and the children that they are looking after after what happened at Sandyhook, but it shouldn't of had to come down to that. It makes much more sense to use paddles instead of guns even though paddling was way before my time.

I was talking about the kids bringing guns and drugs into the schools as you would have never seen that back in the day

I know, but why do you suppose that was? In my book it's because they were properly disciplined. Isn't there something in the Bible about using corpal punishment? Like something to do with a rod and spoiling a child?

Oh and one more thing I thought it to be necessary to bring up. My mom did have a point with the separation of state and religion thing but still.

ok, I remember the hunters carrying the guns to school via racks in their trucks as they left after school to hunt and usually this was the weekend or during the longer days of light when school was in session.

maps are never, never wrong, while its not always possible to know that but I know my county and the city I work and the county have put out the wrong INFO and other map makers. the usgs will also do that and they make all the map data . I have seen maps with listing of two hospitals and one of them goes back to ww2 and has been gone since the early 50s'! I have seen google maps list city hall where it was 70 years ago.

I didn't plan on becoming a meter reader, nor military police, truck driver for the military,or even avenger crew member.yet if I wanted to stay in I had to or drive over 100 miles to remain in the same mos.

I can’t wait until I am finished school. I have been in school simce 2013 and now I am finally upgrading my last to courses I need to get into my two programs. At the moment I’m doing English 30-2 and Math 30-2. I will then take a three month course for Hospital Unit Clerk & four months of Medical Office Assistant, so I will be able to work in all hospitals, doctor’s offices, Psychologist, psychiatric, Laboratories where you go for blood and urine samples as well as Xray. I hope to be in a comfy and cozy job within months of me finishing next April in 2019.

They still do here, except not allowed on school property

There's more to education than just memorizing things. You're taught HOW to think, how to research and inform yourself. Even those "useless" math classes are a lot more useful than you realize. While you may never use Algebra again, you will use the ability to solve problems step by step, logically. History classes are a lot more than memorizing the last 45 presidents of the US, it's becoming an educated citizen of the larger community, the US. It's understanding how our government is supposed to work, how things have changed and WHY in the last 250 years or so since 1776. A wise man once said that those who don't learn from history will repeat it. Well...that's why learning history is important. Learning science, and having a basic understanding of how the world and universe around us work, how our bodies work, why certain chemicals shouldn't be mixed together (ammonia and bleach) is very useful.

Admittedly, I'm an education junkie with a long alphabet soup after my name,..and have discovered the things I learned either in K-12 or college have helped me in the most surprising ways. Also, it helped me instill a love of learning and education in my own children who have their own strings of alphabet soup after their names.
