Self love is very underrated. Because it can mean self worship. Or selfishness.
So what is self love? Self love is self acceptance. Those of us who are older on here, are bound to have had some regrets. When we acted stupidly in the past, offended someone or got addicted to something which corrupted our relationships.
Self acceptance is is saying " guess what . I screwed up and I am likely to do it again. I am human after all. I am no better or worse than others. I might feel like a criminal but I'm not. There is no reason to feel superior or inferior.im part of the human race. "
And self acceptance must be feeling God's love. That's what God's love is. Finally we say "I am part of the human race. The fallen human race"

Love is never simple, it is just one of the things that sin has influenced and that we twist and abuse.
I think you are suggesting I am abusing the meaning of love here. That's fine.
But I honestly wonder what does God's love feel like?
I think a great burden is lifted. We finally forgive ourselves for past idiocies. "I can be a real idiot but that's ok. Its not a perfection contest."
But how crucial is self acceptance! This vital first step should lead us to accepting others warts and all.
Unfortunately it doesn't always lead to accepting others and forgiving their idiocies. It should help though. When we look at others as if we are looking at ourselves, we might have a better chance of forgiving them.

I agree Humble. We may have many regrets, but in the end we have to accept who we are. If we expect God to forgive us we have to repent and confess. Then surely we should learn from the past and move on to better and brighter things.

No I was referring to how we have twisted what love is.

We can know God's love Romans 5 tells us that while we hated God, Jesus died for us.

Eph 3:18 attend to give the dimensions of a love for us that is greater than we can imagine.
