There is a compelling case to be made that apart from the Resurrection narratives in the Gospels, the Shroud is the referenced in another place in the New Testament: By St. Paul in Galatians 3:1.

---> "O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? It was before your eyes that Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified."

It is possibly the "prographō" of Jesus Christ crucified the Galatians saw with their own eyes.

1Jn 5:20 And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, to know him who is true; and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.
1Jn 5:21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols.

2Ki 18:3 And he (did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, according to all that David his father had done.
2Ki 18:4 He removed the high places, and broke the pillars, and cut down the Asherah. And he broke in pieces the bronze serpent that Moses had made, for until those days the people of Israel had burned incense to it; it was called Nehushtan.

1Jn 5:21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols.

I saw a documentary about the scientific test they performed on the Shroud. It showed that the portrait of the man was made by some kind of light like a laser or microwave. Perhaps before he was resurrected he became light and then human again. It would make a good movie.

Acts 5:15 ---> "As a result, people brought the sick into the streets and laid them on beds and mats so that at least Peter's shadow might fall on some of them as he passed by."

Acts 19:2 ---> "so that even handkerchiefs and aprons that had touched him were taken to the sick, and their illnesses were cured and the evil spirits left them."

If Peter's shadow and Paul's handkerchiefs are not considered idols, what makes you think the burial shroud of Jesus Christ is an idol?

St. John specifically mentions the burial shroud of Jesus and treats it with reverence, directly connecting it to the resurrection of Jesus. (cf. John 20:5-7) Do you think St. John considered the burial linens of Jesus to be idols?

Yes, if folk consider then as something beyond what they were. And so do I. Exactly as per the Word of God that inspired your contradiction;

1Jn 5:20 And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, to know him who is true; and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.

1Jn 5:21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols.

If someone venerates or lifts up a shadow or a handkerchief or shroud, (as though those "things" meant something then, or today), then they are an idol worshipper. Exactly as those who venerated the brazen serpent as per the Word of God above.

What do you think an "idol" is anyway?

It is not a good idea to dismiss scriptures for your own personal religious opinions I don't think...

(Rev 2:29) He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

Do you think St. Peter's shadow and St. Paul's handkerchiefs were idols?

At the time, no more an idol than the brazen serpent was;

Num 21:8 And the LORD said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live.

Do you think Hezekiah thought it was an idol in his time?

2Ki 18:3 And he (did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, according to all that David his father had done.

The obvious answer is "yes" of course.

So also is any "thing" similar to that. (shadows, kerchiefs, shrouds...).

So I ask you again, please answer;

What do YOU think an idol is?

1Jn 5:21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols.

The Shroud of Turin is not an idol.
A statue of Mary is not an idol.
A statue of Jesus is not an idol.

An idol is any person or thing that you WORSHIP.
Some persons think their CAR is an idol.

I'm interested in the Shroud.
Does this make it an idol for me?

(2Ki 23:24) Moreover the workers with familiar spirits, and the wizards, and the >>>images, and the idols<<<, and all the abominations that were spied in the land of Judah and in Jerusalem, did Josiah put away, that he might perform the words of the law which were written in the book that Hilkiah the priest found in the house of the LORD.
Psa_97:7 Confounded be all they that serve graven images, that boast themselves of idols: worship him, all ye gods.
Psa_106:36 And they served their idols: which were a snare unto them.
Psa_115:4 Their idols are silver and gold, the work of men's hands.
Psa_135:15 The idols of the heathen are silver and gold, the work of men's hands.

Isa_2:18 And the idols he shall utterly abolish.
Isa_31:7 For in that day every man shall cast away his idols of silver, and his idols of gold, which your own hands have made unto you for a sin.
Isa_45:16 They shall be ashamed, and also confounded, all of them: they shall go to confusion together that are makers of idols.
(Eze 14:5) That I may take the house of Israel in their own heart, because they are all estranged from me through their idols.
Eze_14:6 Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Repent, and turn yourselves from your idols; and turn away your faces from all your abominations...

2Co_6:16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
1Th_1:9 For they themselves shew of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God;

Rev_9:20 And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and >>>idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk<<<

If you want to believe the Shroud of Turin is an idol, I can't stop you.

I CAN say that some might turn it into an idol...but that's up to the individual.

Yes, you will never find me directing attention to images or statues or shrouds or any other idol.

But you will indeed find me preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ which is able to make you wise unto salvation;

Act 2:38 And Peter said unto them, Repent ye, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ unto the remission of your sins; and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

You don't direct attention?
Do you watch movies?
Are you directing your attention to them?
Are they an idol?

P.S. I don't know what Acts 2:38 has to do with this discussion about idols.

To me it is all about semantics and how you define your terms. To me idols are things that you worship in place of the real God in heaven. A image of God in different. It is an artistic depiction of someone we love like a portrait or photograph. God gave us eyes for a reason. Art, nature, each other. To me, as long as we do not WORSHIP these things they are acceptable in God's eyes and not against the commandment.

Absolutely.
I'm thinking of all those beautiful stained glass windows in churches showing the Life of Christ,,,,His miracles, His passion, etc.

Do we worship the glass?
No!

It can even help to deepen our love somehow.

P.S. I don't know what Acts 2:38 has to do with this discussion about idols.

Perhaps this will help...

Eze_14:6 Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord GOD; >>>Repent, and turn yourselves from your idols<<<; and turn away your faces from all your abominations.

These Israelite folk repented;

Act 2:36 Therefore let all the >>>house of Israel<<< know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.
Act 2:37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?

Hence;

Act 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

1Jn 5:21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.
