Since I'm currently battling a bit of a cold these questions started coming to my mind. Did sickness start occurring after the fall of mankind? What is the reason that we biblically get sick? Did Jesus Himself get sick? (Although on that last question I'm guessing that even if He did He could just heal Himself afterwards.) Does anybody know the answers to these questions? :thinking

Sickness definitely came after the fall of man due to the fact that we all walk in disobedience to God's commands at times because we allow the flesh to take over the Spirit of God that we are to be walking in. There will always be a battle between the flesh and the Spirit within us until Christ returns and we then receive our new glorified bodies.

Read Deuteronomy Chapters 27, 28 as this speaks of God's cursing and blessings.

What is the reason that we biblically get sick?
What do you mean by this?
Are you saying the bible makes us sick, or is there a reason in the bible why we get sick?

Cos thje first doesn't happen and the 2nd is because when God cursed the world it caused benefical bacteria to start to mutate and become hostile to us, causing sickness.

Obviously the second and alright,.. but when did God curse the world? Are you talking about the great flood? :confused

I think Jesus would lead you to the cold medicine aisle. Death was introduced into the world through the one man. Clearly flesh is mortal and therefore is subjected to accidents, illness and death. Christians get sick and their bodies die. But as Jesus stated though they were to die yet shall they live and never die.
Your not alone as I get colds and sometimes get sick. I pray- Hence, "I think Jesus would lead you to the cold medicine aisle"

Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law... Galatians 3:13a NKJV

What does the curse of the law have to do with this flesh getting sick at times as we are no longer under the law except for the moral parts.

IMO the flesh gets sick because it can not be in obedience to God's commands and statures as the flesh is enmity against the spirit.

I think he's referring to when God cursed the world after Adam sinned.

That makes sense.

Obviously I'm taking cold medicine but I don't believe I ever asked what I'm supposed to do for a good, I asked why I get them and other illnesses in the first place.

Yeah I wondered the same question and that could be right, but don't forget the scientific terms either as I do believe germs have a big part in it. Though that begs the question who created germs As I do believe that some germs are good for you and they prevent you from getting sick, but a lot of germs get you sick so maybe both God and Satan created them. Then again, I wonder if Satan can actually create anything though. :confused

By the time Paul was being poured out the times were changing and he recommended a little wine for a bad stomach. 1 Tim. 5:23

I agree that illness must have come after the fall when Adam and Eve had sinned. Before that, man was in paradise, close to God, and it seemed we were practically designed to live forever so no illness.

I don't see a Biblically founded reason for each person becoming ill. We have so many different illnesses from the common cold to progeria. Each situation is unique.

Genesis 1:29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.

1 Timothy 5:23 Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach's sake and thine often infirmities.

By just these two scriptures God gave us herbal medicines to help keep us healthy, but now nothing we eat is natural and our food contains so many different chemicals. It's not so much sin, but that of what we eat that causes so many types of sickness.

Well you know what the really good thing about colds are? They don't last too long and between taking Nightquil and Dayquil and using my sinus squeeze bottle, I'm almost over my cold now. :)

I agree, much illness is caused by our food and pharmaceutical systems at the hands of man for the sake of greed $$.

a lot of illness is man made. did you know the average life expectancy in the US is dipping? a lot of it is inequality, lots of poverty, lots of people stuck in dead end lives....

while others move on up and up. so, avarice...'for love of money is the root of all sorts of evil,' plays a role, too.

poverty kills. it kills thru obesity, nutritional deficiencies, hi-stress, high rates of incarceration, community violence, inadequate access to good food. and then...

surprisingly, being very rich can kill, too. anorexia is more prevalent among the affluent classes. suicide and drug use rates are bad at the low and high ends of the social spectrum. which leads the middle, but...guess what's been decimated by decades of economic and social policies in the US? if you said the middle class, you'd be correct. :-(

other than that...foods are often genetically modified, factory farmed, loaded with chemical soups. my personal solution is to load up on massive doses of nutrients, antioxidants...

(fingers crossed) so far, so good. its also easier and more profitable to create new diseases, disorders, syndromes and push $$$ Rx treatments than it is to make society less crazy insane and sick-making. so, there's that. :-(

blah. feeling kinda disillusioned this afternoon, lol. :)

I developed Neuropathy in my feet due to injuring my back, which I've been putting off back surgery, but really need to have this done. The pain in my feet was getting so bad and I hate taking narcotics the doctor wanted to give me so I went on line and looked up natural herbs for the pain and found St John's Wort and this has taken the pain away. I use to take a lot of natural herbs and stupid me got away from ordering them and need to stock up again.

I am sorry to hear that =(

I am glad that you found a natural remedy. Anything that helps away from narcotics is a gigantic plus. My husband generally requests no narcotics at the hospital if he goes in right away so they put it in his chart. Tramadol was still powerful, though - he hates how it made him feel so he found natural alternatives, too. Turmeric worked great for pain when he needed it.

Flesh is mortal. Because Adam and Eve sinned they were not allowed to eat of the tree of life. Death entered the world through their sin. So our bodies are subject to viral infections. One type being the cold virus. While I am one who doesn't believe we share guilt in we regard to the sins of another, in this case Adam, I do believe we did inherit the consequences of their sin. Flesh gives birth to flesh. We can catch viral and bacterial infections. We can get cancer. We can get into accidents that causes injury to our bodies such as car accidents. We grow old and our bodies wear out and suffer medical problems. At the resurrection we will have bodies in the order of spirit. Clothed with immortality. No more sickness and death at that point.
