I was just wondering something. If a man or a woman is dating somebody or engaged, is it or should it be alright to hug another person of the opposite sex and or kiss them on the cheek?

It's mentioned 5 times in gospel to greet
one another with a holy kiss.

These days people will probably get offended and cry sexual assault.

What's wrong with a hug and kiss on the cheek when it's done out of love. Some cultures still greet with a kiss.

People who have developed social skills can read one another.
Personally I tend not to initiate a hug with a woman but allow them to.
It happens every week at our bible study gathering.
I never hugged or was hugged in my workplace. I think maybe a couple times by female coworkers at my dad and mom's funerals.
I went to a crab feast with a sister-in-law with her coworkers, (my wife couldn't make it). I went because I love crab feasts and was born and raised and still live in Maryland.
Anyway we sat with her female coworkers and I did little talking as I was plowing through a pile of steamed crabs.
At the end of the event we were all saying goodbye and one of her friends gave me an extended and pretty robust hug. This woman is probably twenty five years younger than me. Threw me off guard.
But everyone is different in that kind of thing. What they are comfortable with. Maybe for her that was something she did with everyone she met.

Yes
Romans 16:16 Salute one another with an holy kiss. The churches of Christ salute you.
1 Corinthians 13:12 Greet one another with an holy kiss
1 Thessalonians 5:26 Greet all the brethren with an holy kiss.
1 Peter 5:14 Greet ye one another with a kiss of charity. Peace be with you all that are in Christ Jesus. Amen.

A hug and a holy kiss is nothing more than a greeting of love towards another, but not everyone is comfortable with it as they feel it's like someone coming on to them.

BTW, If we ever meet in person no matter who you are expect to get a hug and a kiss on the cheek.

Even if it's in the next life, don't worry, I will. :)

All I did was say hi to a woman the other week and 6 big guys surrounded me and wanted a fight. Lol. Must have been her boyfriend and mates or something. Lol. She actually come back and applogised to me for them being idiots. They fled by my words anyhow. I'm a lover not a fighter.

Some people just read to much into even a simple hi. My ex-husband was the same way if a man said hi to me or he found me talking to another man who was only a co-worker as when we got home he would beat me up thinking I was sleeping with the guy I was talking to. Jealousy is a mean serpent that destroys lives.

So if I was to meet some different people from this site in person...
I'm probably going to at least hug them. Even some of the guys with a bro hug.
Others...pinky finger shaking of hands.

If you tried to hug somebody like that (the second picture) then you would probably get to find out whether or not the moon was really made of cheese because you would send them flying to the moon and back. :lol I actually sort of picture the moon being made out of cheese because of the fact that God likes eating cheese sandwiches for lunch and place a bit of mozzarella on the top of His spaghetti. :biggrin2 Sorry it's getting late and I'm getting slaphappy again. XD! While I'm at it though,.. (Oh and when God sneezes it probably causes an earthquake. :rofl2)

Whether the other person is dating, engaged, or married,
everyone here gives two kisses:
Right cheek first, then left cheek.
Quick.

Not always and not with everyone,,,but it's very much accepted.
Nothing is thought of it.

It is an interesting question.
I would say whatever is your normal cultural way of behaving.
Some are more open and like to acknowledge women in social situations.

Others are more distant and wish to leave things like this.
It is always simpler to acknowledge people who are strangers from a distance until you learn what they are happy with. When these signals and messages are clearer it is then obvious what is appropriate and what is not.

I know a few people, male and female who are very tactile while others would not want any physical contact with anyone. My kids on the other hand expect a hug whenever we have been apart for a few days. It just expresses ones appreciation and the deep feelings that exist. I am not very tactile, and would rather get to know people before such things are more open. God bless you

Once I had a lady ask me not to hug her

I respected her wishes. It wasn't like I was going for a flirtatious type hug or anything. My wife was right there with me. But apparently it made her uncomfortable. So I didn't.
I hug all my in-laws and friends. No big deal.
My son gets hugs all the time. He is almost two of me now. (Big guy)

If someone is uncomfortable with it I'm ok with that. It's not about me so much as it is them. But there's something about the expressed love for family and friends that a hug conveys...it's wonderful to give and receive.
If you don't like it... just say so. If you aren't accustomed to giving or receiving hugs...why not? I've seen some that at first were shy...but grew to love it. It's just a way to express my love (not romantic) to others.
My wife gets a very very different sort of hug from me...and it's accompanied with kisses.

So there's a huge difference.

Your post made me giggle.
Is an explanation even necessary!
There are different types of hugs, but they all express love.
And we should love our "neighbors".

But, yeah, only to those we know.
I feel like I know some persons on this forum...they'd get a hug too!
(incl you).

Well the truth is that although I'm not that much of a hugger either, I still hug my friends and family sometimes. Especially on Christmas. :)
