chronic stress...from what I've read..basically accelerates the aging process. problem there is...in today's world, lots of people are under chronic stress w/ no real escape. personally, I think that's one reason the suicide rate is going up in the US (i don't know about other countries...); we've got big segments of the population kept under stress, no way out, etc.

I agree. That's probably where the phrase "you're giving my gray hair" came from. I really don't want to discuss the matter of suicide though. My cousin committed suicide last year due to bullying which can definitely link to stress.

Outer stress is unavoidable, but we can choose to deal with our inner stress. Our reaction to outward stress. Its possible to stay relatively calm in the midst of turmoil around us. Sure you may need a bit of adrenaline to help you deal with a physical situation, but you can choose to calm down once it is over. Don't dwell on it endlessly.

Arguing and having a whole lot on your mind is definitely also a key into having stress. That was basically my whole entire day today. :wall At least things are starting to get better now though. :)

Positive stress ,or negative stress.

I have been through both and my retirement from the guard, the return home from country, changes in my mos ,the switch from mechanic to meter reading all created stress from ,and depression.any change can cause that.the void of being a civilian is a hard one as one is used to order, civilians are chaotic.

The other thing is the stress of learming something new, change ,its fear of it is a stress and why we tend to fear, resit change

I've been so stressed out that small noises seriously ticked me off because they made it harder to concentrate. I mean I even got angry at the air conditioner, or the sound of my brother breathing

It's odd, but the breathing exercise on my Fitbit works about as well as any kind of meditation seems to work for me.

Learning to relax is really what matters.

Breathing exercises really do work. They help me a lot when I get chest pressure from anxiety. I had to learn how to do them and sick with them for a few minutes for them to be effective, but they're great.
My neighbor gave me some books from when she went to counseling decades ago, and the advice they gave in those was very similar to the advice I'm receiving in counseling today, just with different names for the relaxation techniques.
