I coded an online game once, and I implemented my own swear filter. I got complaints because I had banned the s-x word. I put that in the filter, not because it was a swear word, but because whatever they were saying in that context, was probably inappropriate. I decided to remove it from the filter after I got complaints, because it was coming across as prudish.

So I know what it's like to tune a filter, and it get overactive sometimes. Sad thing is when you have to pore over the code. You get to see every filthy, vile word together in one place. It can get hard to look at.

Actually, our spam filter raised a flag with your email. Chances are you've been banned from another site or did something to make it on Askimet.

I've been both.

I had some Russian-speaking guy ID-break into my account, got my birthday, SIN, password, everything. Successfully opened up both a credit card and a bank account in my name. He then took a cash advance on the credit card, tried to wire it to the bank, and a whole bunch of purchases on Amazon in my name, all sent to some clearing house in New Jersey whose job is to forward packages to Russia. Fortunately with the help of Amazon's security, I was quick to jump on it and got police involved.

I had my own website and PHPBB bulletin board open, but not much traffic (I didn't work on it too hard). I left the MySQL passwords open, because of little traffic. Spammers somehow found it, and used the PHPBB to send spam mails all over the place about pharmaceuticals and stuff using the MySQL email address. They were not all in English. My internet provider shut it down.

Not a fan of Russia.
