2 Thessalonians 2:3
"Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a
falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;"
1 John 2:18
"Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even
now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time."
The Antichrist is also known as:
son of perdition
man of sin
false messiah (this is not used in scripture but is what I call him)
"The Antichrist will be a man so wicked that, bad as other men are, wickedness should be his mark by
which he is distinguished from all others; a man who belongs to sin, in whom the ideal of sin has
become realised and incarnate. What kind of sin will be most prominent in him is not expressed in the
word itself; but the context points clearly to that which is, in fact, the crowning sin-spiritual pride
and rebellious arrogancy." -Ellicott commentary on 2 Thessalonians 2:3
The title "Man of Sin" excludes Satan, as Chrysostom remarks: Satan acts through the man to the full
extent of his power-"enters into him," as he entered into an earlier "Son of Perdition"-but
does not destroy his humanity.
2 Thessalonians 2:9
"even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,"
He will come to deceive the world that he is the messiah. He will be very charismatic to the unlearned eye.
Those that do not strictly follow Christ will not be able to distinguish between the spirit of the world (the Devil)
and the spirit of Christ. He will be able to perform miracles just as Jesus did, but it will be from Satan not God.
2 Thessalonians 2:4
"who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped;
so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God."
Many Christians have mistakenly took the above scripture as the false messiah sitting
in a literal rebuilt temple.
"Though the image is drawn from the Jewish temple, we may say with some confidence that St. Paul
did not expect the Antichrist as a prose fact to take his seat in that edifice. Neither is the
metaphor to be pressed into a mere synonym of "the Church". The words, so far
need not necessarily mean that the Man of Sin will make special claims upon the Christian
community as such. Rather, the whole phrase, "taking his seat in the temple of God," is a poetical
or prophetical description of usurping divine prerogatives generally: not the prerogatives of the
true God alone, but whatever prerogatives have been offered to anything "called God." Though
the prophecy might be fulfilled without any symbolical act (e.g., of assuming any material throne),
yet the spontaneousness ("himself") and the openness ("showing himself") seem so essentially parts
of the prophecy as of necessity to imply that the Man of Sin will make formal claim to occupy
that central seat in men's minds and aspirations which is acknowledged to be due to God alone.
The formal making of this claim seems to be identical with the apocalypse of the Man of Sin,
the act by which he is manifested or revealed." - Ellicott commentary on 2 Thessalonians 2:4
Religions around the world are awaiting the arrival of their messiah.
Jews await the messiah. Even though He already came.
Buddhists await Maitreya.
Hindus await Kalki.
Muslims await Mahdi.
Taoists await Li Hong.
Zoroastrianists await Saoshyant.
And there are other false spiritual paths/religions that really just worship fallen angels (demons)
who also are expecting a messiah. They will all receive the Antichrist and one world religion gladly.
Even Christians await the return of Jesus Christ, the true messiah. But only true Christians that
read and study the word of God as if their lives depend on it, because it does, know that the
false messiah, the Antichrist must be revealed first to deceive the world that he is the
messiah, that he is God. Just as 2 Thessalonians 2:3 tells us.
This deception of the Antichrist that will deceive most of the world into believing that he is
the true messiah, that he is God. This may be part of the falling away spoken of in 2 Thessalonians 2:3.
Hypocritical Christians who do not walk in true obedience and faith with Jesus Christ and
Father Jehovah will be deceived by the Antichrist, and fall away.
This deception of the Antichrist may also be related to the delusion spoken of in 2 Thessalonians 2:11.
"And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:"
I believe we are fast approaching these end time events that must happen before the return of
Jesus Christ. I believe we are only a short space away
from planned events to bring these prophecies to fruition.
