Other then the Bible is
Well there are a lot.

Here is a verse from one.

The Passionate Shepherd to His Love

Come live with me and be my love,
And we will all the pleasures prove,
That Valleys, groves, hills, and fields,
Woods, or steepy mountain yields.

And we will sit upon the Rocks,
Seeing the Shepherds feed their flocks,
By shallow Rivers to whose falls
Melodious birds sing Madrigals.

And I will make thee beds of Roses
And a thousand fragrant posies,
A cap of flowers, and a kirtle
Embroidered all with leaves of Myrtle;

A gown made of the finest wool
Which from our pretty Lambs we pull;
Fair lined slippers for the cold,
With buckles of the purest gold;

A belt of straw and Ivy buds,
With Coral clasps and Amber studs:
And if these pleasures may thee move,
Come live with me, and be my love.

The Shepherds’ Swains shall dance and sing
For thy delight each May-morning:
If these delights thy mind may move,
Then live with me, and be my love.

Here is Another

The Junior God looked from his place
In the conning towers of heaven,
And he saw the world through the span of space
Like a giant golf-ball driven.
And because he was bored, as some gods are,
With high celestial mirth,
He clutched the reins of a shooting star,
And he steered it down to earth.
The Junior God, 'mid leaf and bud,
Passed on with a weary air,
Till lo! he came to a pool of mud,
And some hogs were rolling there.
Then in he plunged with gleeful cries,
And down he lay supine;
For they had no mud in paradise,
And they likewise had no swine.

The Junior God forgot himself;
He squelched mud through his toes;
With the careless joy of a wanton boy
His reckless laughter rose.
Till, tired at last, in a brook close by,
He washed off every stain;
Then softly up to the radiant sky
He rose, a god again.

The Junior God now heads the roll
In the list of heaven's peers;
He sits in the House of High Control,
And he regulates the spheres.
Yet does he wonder, do you suppose,
If, even in gods divine,
The best and wisest may not be those
Who have wallowed awhile with the swine?

The Bible is certainly in a class of it's own and always has been. It is the primary way that the Lord speaks to us.

But if we're talking favorite books other than that, then I'd have to say it would be The Pilgrims Progress by John Bunyan. It's a story about Christian and His walk with God and his many trials and the cost of his salvation. His journey proves that the road to Heaven is not easy, the cost is great, and the true Christian must be willing to pay the cost no matter what. Man is full of sin, but this does not keep him from attaining glory. It's a wonderful book. :study

" For I perceive the way to life lies here. Come, pluck up, heart; let's neither faint nor fear. Better, though difficult, the right way to go, Than wrong, though easy, where the end is woe.” ...!! :wink

The Pilgrims Progress is by far the best book i have read. Anything by Kenneth Hagin. Smith Wigglesworth; Ever increasing faith. Holy war by Bunyan..

If you're looking for recommendations, EF Schumacher's 'A guide to the perplexed' is well worth a read.

Best wishes, 2RM.

Never heard of that text, but another book by that same title was written in ad 1190 by the great Jewish sage Maimonides (Moses ben Maimon)

Indeed so. Schumacher's book has the advantage of being rather more modern, and so is more readable and little more up to date with current trends in philosophy and theology.

Best wishes, 2RM.
