Last year a bird had built a nest in the corner of my front porch and raised four little ones. I thought it was cool and fed them some and watched them here and there and then one day they were gone. The kids moved out and so did the mama. I didn't tear down their nest or anything. I left it there.

So a new mama is living there now and that's ok, but here is my problem...my new furnace and A/C went in recently and while I was over on the side of the house I looked, and gasped at what I saw! My dad had someone insulate the outside walls of the house from foundation to attic. They did a good job and drilled a lot of holes and did plug them all when done. I walked around the house looking at all the plugs when I first took possession of this place. They were plugged with little plastic plugs...

Not now. The birds have apparently picked out the plugs and moved in to my walls and built nests and stuff! I can see a nest or two sticking out up high. Oh I know what to do. Set up a ladder and go inside beat on the walls to drive them out...then up the ladder and silicone the holes shut.

I can hear them in the walls. But I realized that, uh, they are probably all raising young in my walls! What the heck do I do now?! Wait until their done and moved out, and then silicone the holes? I did not keep track of the time last year how long the chicks were in the nest until they were gone...but it seems like a long time.

If I seal up the holes now, there will be birds, chicks, eggs whatever inside the walls and will prolly rot and stink...I don't want that. Plus...don't tell me, I can guess...it's prolly illegal to do that if it would harm any birds or baby birds. Figures. So does anyone have any advice?
How long until I can expect the baby birds to move out?
Is there such a thing as bird repellent? That wont harm the birds or young but will make them want to move out?

I've had to use bird repellent.
The bird droppings are virulently toxic...and birds poop everywhere.
Stop up the holes now... remove any eggs and nests later.

Bird repellent comes in a tube and spreads like caulking...but it doesn't dry. Birds don't like it on their feet.

We recently had a bird's (robin's) nest on our windowsill. Unfortunately something happened to the eggs though. I realize that it's a part of nature but it's still really sad. :sad

I hadn't thought of that yet. Wow. I can't wait for 2 or 3 months for them to fill up my walls with poop and then move out. I'm starting this this weekend. Thanks, Brother.
