The cemetery is less a place of loss and more a place of gain.
The dead in Christ are to be mourned, for sure. But they are also to be envied. Funeral dirges are understandable, but a trumpet blast would be equally appropriate.
According to the promise of the empty tomb, my friend Peter awoke in a world so wondrously better than this one that it would take God himself to convince him to return to earth. We know this because Jesus’ miracles included only three resurrections. I’m thinking he had a hard time getting return guests.
People of the Promise hold on to the unshakable hope that hinges on the resurrection of Christ. The Christian hope depends entirely upon the assumption that Jesus Christ died a physical death, vacated an actual grave, and ascended into heaven where he, at this moment, reigns as head of the church.

1 Corinthians 15:55-57 King James Version (KJV)
55 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?

56 The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.

57 But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Amen.

Just came from a funeral today.

Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.

nobody likes to experience death close friends/family . just as the dev said its not the end but the beginning . i simply dont see them looking out from heaven and seeing what is going on here on earth

The cemetery is less a place of loss and more a place of gain.
It all depends on who is being buried. At most funerals, the preacher's assumption is that the deceased is with the Lord. But only those who are in Christ go to be with Christ in Heaven. Max Lucado is assuming that everyone is saved.

I agree. People who pass on are to be envied but this is touchy to speak on about particular people because it is easy to offend those who are grieving their loss, and not quite understanding yet that to die is to gain.

I have thought before that, this passage in 1 Corinthians 15, well, the entire chapter, may be the most important chapter for us in the entire scriptures. This chapter was my devotional a couple days ago. There is so much leading up to those couple verses posted that, I suggest to go read the whole chapter for a clearer understanding of them!

it is easy to offend those who are grieving their loss
it can be but this has to be spoke at the right time and place. grieving over the loss of a loved one. many only see it has a absence and would like to bring them back. i have read the chapter Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. 26 And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?” to the christian its victory to those not saved. defeat

This was brought to mind what Jesus said.

Matthew 8:21 And another of his disciples said unto him, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father. 22 But Jesus said unto him, Follow me; and let the dead bury their dead.

I understood this after my Grandmother died after I took care of her for about a year. She was a great woman of faith, but suffered with cancer before she died, but yet she displayed Christ even in her suffering as she witnessed His pure love by her actions as she had cancer, but cancer didn't have her.

People could not understand and some angry at me because I could not mourn for her or shed a tear. I miss her dearly, but also know her soul is at perfect rest waiting for the day when Christ calls all out of their graves as she will be resurrected and given a new glorified body as she is among those who will be caught up to Christ.

It was only her physical fleshly body that was laid in the grave as her very spirit/breath that made her a living soul returned back to God who gave it. It is the dead in Christ that bury their dead and mourn for them as those who are in Christ that have physically died should be a celebration of life and not a funeral of mourning, even though we will miss them, but will be joined with them when Christ returns.

Our focus has to be on following Christ as even at a funeral we should be witnessing Christ to those who are dead in Christ. This can be done discreetly with compassion on those who mourn.

Max Lucado is assuming that everyone is saved.

Where does it say in the OP that Max Lucado is assuming everyone is saved?

I see nothing wrong with his title as the cemetery is a place of gain for those who have died being in Christ as death is swallowed up in victory, oh grave where is thy victory.

Do I believe this?! You bet I do!

It might sound like a good sci-fi movie but methinks it's just strange enough to all be true. Here we are, born into a war, that we didn't start, behind enemy lines, with amnesia, a field manual, a radio (prayer), and an unseen tutor/comforter/helper.

It has all the ingredients of the Born Identity (Bourne, Lol)

Evade the enemy assassins while trying to regain our memory and identity.

Romans 8:28

“28 And we know that all things work together for good (but only if certain conditions are met) to them who love God (the first condition), to them who are the called according to His purpose (this means it’s “His Purpose, and not ours,” which is the second condition; otherwise, all things will not work together for our good).”

It should be obvious from the title of the thread:
"The cemetery is less a place of loss and more a place of gain"
This can only be true for believers, not for the unbelieving and the ungodly, who go straight to Hades.

You can not judge a book by its cover (Title) as you are only assuming put words in his mouth that is nowhere found in the OP. We know it's only true for the believers in Christ that they will be raised to eternal life, but also true with the unbelievers who have rejected Christ that they will be raised to damnation.

John 5:28 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, 29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.

Max lucado is well known respected Christian author ..i have several of his books

He doesn't throw up any red flags for me in fact if I still lived in San Antonio I would check out Oak Hills Church. The church used to be Oak Hills United Church of Christ which this affiliation believed in gay marriages and Max broke off affiliation with the United Church of Christ.

(Please people, do not make this about gay marriages or the United Church of Christ. I only mention this to show how Max is dedicated to God.) This is not directed at you Ezra.

i knew he use to be affiliated with church of Christ..i dont get excited about denoms as long as its all about Christ and not about them..
