Bible Study The Command To Be Hospitiable

Lately I've been trying to learn about Hospitality, and praying that God would teach me and help me obey. Since that time it has dawned on me, more than ever before, that this isn't just something we should do as entertainment, or for fellowship, but God commands it of every believer.

He tells us to be hospitable to the brethren and the stranger, without complaint. It's something we should be seeking to do, to be able to offer people a place of refreshment and rest around our table, to share the Word of God, to exhibit Christ in our home, and to show love. We should be 'lovers' of hospitality, be given to hospitality, and do it without grudging.

Abraham was VERY hospitable. He served, he stood, while others ate, while the angel of the Lord ate in his home. Jesus was hospitable, and He didn't even have a home! Paul says it's a qualification for a Bishop. It's also one of the characteristics that qualifies a widow to serve and be cared for by the church...'if she has lodged strangers'.

I think it's a ministry of the Gospel to be sure, and now I am looking for more examples in Scripture. We live in a remote area, and there are not a lot of people stopping by our home usually, but since I've been praying God has brought people to our door. I felt awkward at first, because our home is so small and I am VERY shy, but it's been a blessing and the size of our house hasn't really made a difference...I am excited to learn more about this command.

Wow, I never knew that there was so much to be said about hospitality.

When we moved out to the country, my wife was very excited to use the house for company, and I know that she wishes we could use it more for that purpose. We've really gotten closer to some members at church by having them over for dinner, or a BBQ and I have to think, that had they not come over for dinner, the only other place we would see them is at church because our lives are just so hectic.

yes, good.
the word 'charity' isn't even in the bible(original) nor even in the hebrew way of thinking as Yhwh taught them all along ! 'righteousness' or 'right ruling' or 'righteous' is. i.e. to give is the nature of Yhwh, Yhwh is Extravagantly Generous and His Children are also. to 'not give' (what is needed, and often more) , even to an enemy, is unrighteous.
in the Tanakh and in the New Testament Yhwh's people, and ekklesia immersed IN Christ Jesus, are told to be open handed generous to those around them, fellow-countrymen, neighbors, and even strangers, in need.
those with fields are told not to go gather twice. gather once, and leave the rest for others to have freely. this is righteousness before the Creator of the universe and the Savior of mankind(as many as believe are saved - 'believe' is an active participating totally life changing with literally resurrection life glaringly opposite of selfish worldly carnal life).
