"This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of Godliness , but denying the power thereof from such turn away." II Tim. 3:1-5

When Paul wrote to the Church at Corinth and told them the end of the age has come upon them (1 Corinthians 10:11), this should cause us to realize that we are running on fumes at this very moment. If the calendars are right, the church is now 1,987 years old. The church began on the day of Pentecost, which was some 33 years after the birth of Christ. So, we deduct 33 years from 2020, which gives us the number of 1,987 as it regards the age of the modern church. In other words, we are living in the last days of the church age, which means that Bible prophecy concerning end-time events is about to happen. As it regards the work of God on this earth, every 2,000 years or every 1000 years something tremendous has taken place. Momentous things most definitely happened at other times, but hallmark events took place at the time frames mentioned.

Perilous times speaks of difficult dangerous times (and deception), which Christians are now living in just before the Rapture of the Church. The world economy is now collapsing due to the noisy pestilence world wide. The scriptures teaches us that there will be more tares than wheat in the Endtimes Church (Matthew 13:33, Revelation 3:14-22). It says that those who call themselves Christians will have a form of Godiness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

The Bible doesn’t teach that the situation is going to get better and better, but, as stated here, worse and worse. It also teaches, as we see from Verse 5, that the Church will go into total apostasy. It will have, and presently has, “a form of Godliness, but denies the power thereof.”

My question is? What does it mean to have a form of Godliness (those who call themselves Christians), but denying the power thereof?

What does “denying the power thereof” mean?

That is a good question and very timely in these days. I believe there are a great many Christians who deny the power of God...which is a way of saying, they don't believe that God does miracles in these times and heals people, or that God even speaks to people or translates them to the 3rd heaven and things like that. They say and probably even do know in their heart that Jesus is real and is alive, having risen from the grave, can usually quote scriptures off the top of their head...but they wont act out in faith (walking in it) because they do not really believe it so even though they call themselves Christian they will deny the power thereof. So they don't pray with the expectation that this will happen that I pray for, wont lay hands on anyone in healing prayer because God don't do those things anymore da da da...

I remember awhile back, I was on some Christian forum board somewhere, not here, and I was sharing one of my many testimonies and got remarked on that they think that I have these testimonies because I want to believe that God does these things for me so much, that I make myself see God's hand in a lot of what I do. The Brother was very polite abut it but essentially was denying the power thereof and saying that I was a liar and perhaps didn't even realize it. A few have even gone as far as trying to explain in worldly ways what probably occurred and that was not really God but merely a coincidence that I twisted to have come from God. God doesn't really deliver people coffee when they are out, God doesn't send Angels with cash money to men's garage sales and talk the price up, and God certainly does not fix furnaces because even though He did part the Red Sea, that He is not an HVAC technician...and on and on.

So these type of people are the same ones that...when their relative or friend comes to visit and tells them they are sick, they wont lay hands on them or pray for them but they will refer them to their doctor or a certain kind of medicine. And that my friend, is a denial of faith.

I believe that the way it goes is that while they have the measure of faith, they do not set their faith into action. Peter could not have walked on water until he got out of the boat and took that risk. If Peter had not gotten out of the boat then he would not have walked on water so basically nullified his faith. He still has a measure of faith but no action or deeds to accompany it will not allow faith to manifest into a miracle. So it is said,

James 2:14-20
14 What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? 17 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.

18 But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without [a]your works, and I will show you my faith by [b]my works. 19 You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble! 20 But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is [c]dead?.../(NKJV)

Ok, let me admit that I have actually laid hands on customers furnaces and air conditioners a few times and prayed over them in their houses. I know that sounds like the stupidest thing ever to do, but it was not when anyone saw me do this but I was desperate at the time, these people who lived here needed heat. It was cold in that house! And somehow...trained professional that I am, the problem source escaped me. But I have to fix it. I am it. They needed help and called a professional. Time slipped by and I could not spend any more time on it because of the busy schedule I needed to keep. I gave up and buttoned it up. I know that it was not fixed. What am I even going to say to this customer? ...so I prayed and laid hands on it. I did not change any parts on it, and yet it fired up so sweet and ran normally...and so suddenly, that it was obvious that the Lord answered my prayer. But the point is that that furnace would not have worked had I not taken action by the praying. It did work and Glory to God for His help! It made me look good to the customer (win), which made the Company look good to their Customer (win), and the Customer has heat (win), and God gets the glory! (win). I didn't fix it! But I did not leave the customers house a failure to them either. So like they say, I will show you my faith by my works. I am learning to go beyond my unbelief and believe in the power of God and to not deny it.

Nevertheless, I think I have probably laid hands on more inanimate objects than I have people. Lord help my unbelief.

It s not easy to love the unlovely and it is only through the see of the Spirit that we can do that. Many people go through the motions of being Christian, it is no they live, they ar Christian so we go to church, give to charity etc.

How do you or I love others when it is really tough. Like when the supermarket shelves are stripped, were you giving to food banks?
A simple illustration.

What is the reality behind your Christianity? What difference does I make between you and the next non Christian?

I Believe it means that it means someone outwardly ca appear to be a born again Christian but inwardly they are not born again. They are still living in the flesh..
The Holy Spirit is the power within that convicts us of sin and gives us the power to overcome. We have to grow in Christ and fight our weakness. It is constant battle but The Holy Spirit gives us the power to overcome. We have to search our hearts daily. If we do not carry our cross and deny ourselves daily we are living on the flesh not the spirit.

How does the Holy Spirit carry out this work in us? Is it automatic?

If we love God we want to please Him. Jesus said 'if you love Me keep My commandments.'
If we love God we will hate sin so we want to get rid of it. Once you start to follow Christ the Holy Spirit convicts you of your sin and gives you the power to overcome it.
We have the choice of accepting that power or denying it
It is not automatic. If we want to change the Holy Spirit will help us. We have to work with Him.

How do we do what the scripture(s) ask of us to do, so that we receive the Help of the Holy Spirit to carry out this important work in us?

Yeah, I've heard a guy say....not on this forum, but another....that there was no such thing as healing simply because he had never been healed nor had ever seen one. Now how arrogant is that?

We ask God for the help. We cannot do it by self.
Lets get back to the basic foundation. Without Faith it is impossible to please God. Therefore, our Faith must be placed and maintained exclusively in Christ and the Cross (the Blood of Jesus) (Rom. 8:2), which gives the Holy Spirit the legal means to carry out both the will and the doing of His good pleasure. Phil. 2:13

Any other way Grace stops which we need. Gal. 2:21

Always remember, under Grace (NT), the Holy Spirit carries out the will of God. Under the Law (OT) people carry out the will of God and failed. The Holy Spirit will never fail because He is God.

I am thankful that i do not do these things. People say salvation is free, but technically its not. Remember the parable that Jesus said concerning the man that sold all he had and bought a pearl.

If your Faith is not placed in Christ and Him Crucified alone, you are doing these things (Gal. 2:21).
21 I do not set aside the grace of God; for if righteousness comes through the law, then Christ died 1in vain.”

Who is he who speaks and it comes to pass,
When the Lord has not commanded it? Lamentations 3:37

Therefore, only if it is the will of God do these things happen.
