but if so many more people are on hard drugs, should we really have guns floating around?

Absolutely. I know some druggies, and they used to own guns. I think they all went to the pawn shop so they could buy drugs. Personally, I think that when the SHTF, that the druggies will be the most dangerous people out there to deal with. A lot of them have families, and when things get tight, the mama's will tell them me and the kidss are hungry, go get some food or money...and they're going to get dangerous. They'll turn on their friends to rob them.

There's really only one way to deal with a drug crazed lunatic. Sad, but it's what we're facing.

Your implication that if there were no guns that there'd be less violence, is well intentioned but not very realistic. Lacking guns, a lunatic will resort to whatever is at hand to do what they have to do to get their next fix or get some food for the family. Knives, baseball bats, even a bucks worth of gasoline will do the same thing as guns will in a criminal endeavor.

There's no way that guns can be eradicated at this point. There's too many of them out there. People can even make guns fairly easily now. The only thing that legislation against the ownership of guns would do, is to take more guns out of the hands of law abiding people. The criminals don't follow laws! They'll go steal a gun.
Understand, Brother?

Another point that I'd like to make to the men here...We all know that the women pretty much run the households in this day and age. That can be both good and bad, depends on the woman lol. But my point is thus;

Maybe the wife has said "no guns" I'm not having my kids get hurt with your guns, or something similar. There's probably some here, who would own a gun or three, but the wife said no for whatever reason...

It is entirely ok to basically follow the wife's rule, it is true, happy wife, happy life, however...don't forget, that the man is responsible for home security. We're in peace time right now so it's not apparent that the cause/effect nature can dump a bunch of responsibility on a man quick. In a crisis situation, women are prone to hand the reins of control back to the man in an instant.

Feed us, protect us...do something...is what she'll say. You're the man and spiritual leader of the home, and you can't let the women (family) down at that time...you must have an ace in the hole.

If shtf, rioters are three blocks away and headed your way...what will you do? Sorry honey, you said I can't own a gun so I don't know what to do? She wont accept that! You have to realize that this could happen and have something, some way, of protecting those in your charge. Guns are perfect for this.

It's a prudent thing to own a gun...just in case.

I like guns too ya know.

Amen, Brother! That's the mark of intelligence to be open minded like you are. You don't (over-)like them, don't want to ever hurt anyone, and yet, you concede their utility and usefulness in a potential crisis situation.

Me too. I can be called a gun enthusiast, but I absolutely do not ever want to have to shoot anyone for any reason. And I havent. I was being invaded, and was looking for a way to not have to shoot him. Luckily, I did it. I repelled the home invader, protected the home, and didn't shoot anyone. I did all the right things.

Guns are like an insurance policy. It's nice to have, but you don't really want to have to use it.

What do you guys think about guns vs faith?

I know that some hold that owning guns is a lack of faith in God.

I do not see it that way, having a gun doesn't guarentee anything, it leaves a lot of room for having faith in God. I was scared when I was being invaded. Having the gun gave me more time to think. It gave me options.

I know that some would say, you don't need a gun, have faith in God...But all through the bible, Gods people were armed for the most part. God sent them into war many times.

I'm all for haviung faith in God, but to not own guns because of a faith in God, seems to me to be...perhaps over the top. I don't play on the freeway thinking that God will save me. So to have a sword, in my mind, compliments my faith rather than corrupts it.

What do you think?

The only difference between a gun and some other item used as a weapon is that a gun can kill at a distance. Would it be better to use a bow & arrow?......a baseball bat?......kitchen knife?.....a hammer?.......Dead is dead no matter how it is done.

I don't see any correlation between the two. I own a gun. So what? I also own a few knives. I own a 3500 pound pick up. I own an ATV. I own a boat. I own a chainsaw. I own many other tools for various purposes. Does owning these things define a lack of faith in God? Quite the contrary. I have faith that God has given me an ability to know how to use these tools properly and safely and to not use them in a way that defies His will.

Well said, Brother. The only reason I even mentioned it is because I've been accused of not having faith because I'm a gun owner. Like if I'm a Christian I don't need a gun?! Lol I guess he doesn't watch the news, Christians need guns more than the average joe in todays world...

So what's everyone's favorite semi-auto handgun make? I'm a Sig Sauer man. It actually came down between Sig and Heckler & Koch; I went with Sig only because I preferred the shorter control levers (I guess the longer levers on H&Ks are to accomodate tactical operators wearing their tactical gloves, a situation that didn't apply to me).

For me semi autos would have to be Colt or Springfield Armory. I'm a pretty big time 1911 fan having had grown up shooting them.

For revolvers it's Ruger, hands down.

I want an M1A some day.

I had an M1A for awhile. I bought a "Loaded" model which had a match trigger, barrel, and flash supressor. It shot like a dream. It was hard to miss with it. It's a nice rifle. I even carried it one year hunting. I was sporting about it, and turned off the gas valve. This effectively turned it into a straight pull bolt action, lol. I had to buy a short mag for it too. I didn't see any deer that year but I found out what I wanted to know. That for me, it is too heavy for all day treks and stuff, so I sold it off. But there wasn't anything wrong with it.

The trigger wasn't super light but it did break like a glass rod. And it had no creep at all, it was great. I just don't wanna be stuck havin to carry that thing, wow. Eventually, I settled on a Marlin 1895G 45/70 and it prolly weighed half of what the M1A weighs, and super compact! Oh, that 18.5" barrel made it very handy. I put one of those "Happy Trigger Kit" on it from Wild West Guns in Anchorage AK, a decent peep sight on the rear scope mount and the big loop lever so I could wear gloves if I wanted. Oh, and a stock mount ammo carrier/cheek pad pouch. Now that was a sweet setup! I took two Mule Deer with that one. One shot each. Don't ever let anyone tell you that the 45/70 is hard to shoot because of it's so called rainbow trajectory. It's an awesome 200 yard rifle. With peep sights even. The deer I got were both close anyway, one was about 60 or so yards and the other maybe 80 yards. It's not hard to hit with. The happy trigger kit for it was a C-note well spent.

The only other mod I was thinking about for it was to extend the mag tube. I had a 18.5" barrel and only a 4 shot tube. The gunsmith said he could order a mag tube for a longer barreled model and cut it down to fit my Guide Gun. That would have given me 1 extra round for a total of 5+1. It got stolen though. :sad

One day I laid my 1895G down beside my AR on the bed and realized...That 1895 is an Assault Rifle in it's own right, lol. There's a lotta horsepower in that little setup.
