In Philippians 3:19, the Holy Spirit said through Paul, that enemies of the Cross of Christ are declared to have their end in destruction.
Why and what does the Holy Spirit mean by this statement?
Brethren, join in following my example, and note those who so walk, as you have us for a pattern. For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: whose end is destruction, whose god is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame—who set their mind on earthly things.
Phippians 3:17-19
- who set their mind on earthly things
To be an enemy of the cross is to set your mind on earthly things so that you walk according to the flesh, rather than walk according to the Spirit who desires to lead us to practice the way of love and righteousness.
Paul exhorts us to set our minds on heavenly things, on things above rather that on things of this earth.
For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be.
