Parable

A Sower went to sow his seeds. As he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the birds came and devoured (ate) them up.

Some seeds fell upon stony places where there was not much earth. Immediately they sprang up because they had no deepness of earth. And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away due to lack of moisture.

And some fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up, and choked it, and it yielded no fruit.

And other fell on good ground, and did yield fruit that sprang up and increased and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold and some thirtyfold.

Meaning

The Seed is the Word of God.

Those by the wayside are they that hear. When any human being hears the Word of God and does not understand it, then comes the wicked one (Satan the Devil) and takes away the Word of God which was sown in the heart. This is about the person who received the seed by the way side.

But, those that received the seed on stony ground are like those, who, when they hear the Word of God immediately receive it with gladness. And have no root in themselves and so endure for a period of time. Afterwards when tribulation or persecution arises because of the Word of God that they are putting into practice, immediately they are offended, loose their faith in God and become unfruitful.

Those that received seed among the thorns are those that hear the Word of God and are affected by the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things and the pleasures of this life which choke them and they become unfruitful or they bring no fruit to perfection.

But those that received seed on the good ground are they which have an honest and good heart and having heard the Word of God, understand it, keep it, practice it sincerely and bring forth fruit with patience. They are not shaken by tribulation or persecution as they are firmly rooted in the good ground. They avoid getting choked by the cares of the world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things and the pleasures of this life. Hence, they are hundred percent fruitful, some sixty percent and some thirty percent fruitful.

Let us pray to our Heavenly Father pleading Him to help us understand His Word so that we may be as those and grant us divine grace, strength and patience who recieved seed on the good ground. And then a time will come when we shall become fruitful hundredfold, sixtyfold or thirtyfold.

That is one of my favorite Parables that Jesus told. I reflected on its Words many times in my younger years, wondering which one represented me.
