Unfortunately, the first five books of the Old Covenant (Testament) gets a bad rap in church doctrine these days. Truth be known, men who know a whole lot more about God's Word and His way than I do say that the the end of time is explained by the beginning of time and Scripture.

First, I'll quote from the "HalleluYah Scriptures" James 1:25 "He that looked into the perfect Torah, that of freedom, and continues in it , not becoming a hearer that forgets, but a doer of work, this one shall be baruk (blessed) in his doing."

Now, the KJV. James 1:25 "But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

This is a prudent instruction from the Word of Elohim (God).

amen

if people see Torah as God's wisdom for us to live a blessed life they will see what you are saying for themselves

if people see Torah as laws to keep to avoid punishment they will miss all the goodness and blessing it contains

beauty is in the eye of the beholder

pov can either enlighten or obscure the treasure Torah contains

Not to distract from the study, because I know what Chopper means, but recent info has sort of changed my outlook. Stove posted an article the other day to do with yelling. The thing that stuck out for me the most was when the woman called something part of the Torah. Those parts were actually bits of the Talmud. So doing some research on what that was all about I discovered that for many, the Torah can include all Jewish teaching, written or oral on those books, and not just the scripture itself. So nowadays, the term Torah has much less authority for me than it used to depending on who I am talking to.

Torah has never meant talmud - that would have been a misunderstanding on the woman's part

Torah is the first 5 books of the bible

Tanakh is the entire Hebrew scriptures - Torah - Nevi'im/prophets - Ketuvim/writings -

talmud is the ancient jewish commentary on the Tanakh

i've heard people claim the bible says God helps those that help themselves - and other non-scriptural stuff - it just proves they don't read scripture enough to know what is really in there

I don't disagree with you. In Christian circles I have never heard it talked about in any other way that what Chopper described it to be. A quick search shows some like minds on it though. It's just more of a shock about something I figured was just so universal, which apparently isn't. :shrug

This little excerpt from britannica.com seems to echo in written statements from others...

"The term Torah is also used to designate the entire Hebrew Bible. Since for some Jews the laws and customs passed down through oral traditions are part and parcel of God’s revelation to Moses and constitute the “oral Torah,” Torah is also understood to include both the Oral Law and the Written Law."

Sorry, those links were in the copy. Being where it's from they shouldn't lead to anything nasty.

I believe that there is a huge misunderstanding in the Church about the difference between the Torah, or Law and Judaism.

The law was designed to reveal or direct the child of Abraham to the true Messiah.

Judaism, on the other hand denies Jesus as Messiah and involves the teachings of the Talmud as well as the traditions of man.

In short, Judaism is a man made religion, whereas the Torah is the word of God.

Torah is God and who He said He is in the beginning to that of His mighty hand in all things. He brings blessings or cursing as we choose life or death.

In Genesis, He's the breath of life
In Exodus, the Passover Lamb
In Leviticus, He's our High Priest
Numbers, The fire by night
Deuteronomy, He's Moses' voice
