The parable of the Prodigal Son is my favorite because there is so much to learn from this story that Jesus told.
Theology is the teachings about God and His nature.
The Prodigal Son teaches us about God and also about ourselves.

What is your favorite lesson(s), or teaching, from this great parable?

I very much like the teaching that even though we might sin, or even leave God for a season,,,He will always welcome us back with open arms.

What else is there to learn?

Luke 15:11-32

The Prodigal Son

11And He said, “A man had two sons.
12“The younger of them said to his father, ‘Father, give me the share of the estate that falls to me.’ So he divided his wealth between them.
13“And not many days later, the younger son gathered everything together and went on a journey into a distant country, and there he squandered his estate with loose living.

14“Now when he had spent everything, a severe famine occurred in that country, and he began to be impoverished.
15“So he went and hired himself out to one of the citizens of that country, and he sent him into his fields to feed swine.
16“And he would have gladly filled his stomach with the pods that the swine were eating, and no one was giving anything to him.
17“But when he came to his senses, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired men have more than enough bread, but I am dying here with hunger!

18‘I will get up and go to my father, and will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in your sight; 19I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me as one of your hired men.”’

20“So he got up and came to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion for him, and ran and embraced him and kissed him.
21“And the son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight; I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’

22“But the father said to his slaves, ‘Quickly bring out the best robe and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet;
23and bring the fattened calf, kill it, and let us eat and celebrate;
24for this son of mine was dead and has come to life again; he was lost and has been found.’ And they began to celebrate.

25“Now his older son was in the field, and when he came and approached the house, he heard music and dancing.
26“And he summoned one of the servants and began inquiring what these things could be.
27“And he said to him, ‘Your brother has come, and your father has killed the fattened calf because he has received him back safe and sound.’

28“But he became angry and was not willing to go in; and his father came out and began pleading with him.
29“But he answered and said to his father, ‘Look! For so many years I have been serving you and I have never neglected a command of yours; and yet you have never given me a young goat, so that I might celebrate with my friends;
30but when this son of yours came, who has devoured your wealth with prostitutes, you killed the fattened calf for him.’

31“And he said to him, ‘Son, you have always been with me, and all that is mine is yours.
32‘But we had to celebrate and rejoice, for this brother of yours was dead and has begun to live, and was lost and has been found.’”

What is your favorite lesson(s), or teaching, from this great parable?
That a prodigal son is still a Father’s loved son, even from afar:

And having arisen, he went to his father. But he still being far distant, his father saw him and felt-deep-feelings [of love]. And having run, he fell upon his neck and kissed him.

The meaning of “prodigal”.

Not my favorite part but nonetheless a lesson.

Great post.

There is much to unpack in this beautiful parable. I am always taken by the fact that the first thing the prodigal son does upon returning to the Father is to make a confession.

Not my favorite part but nonetheless a lesson.

That one can be alive, become dead, and then alive again.
I’m personally looking forward to my resurrection and the reception that follows.
It is a promised wedding reception, indeed a pledge God has made to all His loved children, poor or not, dead or alive at Christ’s return.

But whenever you make a reception, be inviting poor ones, crippled ones , lame ones , blind ones , and you will be blessed because they do not have the means to repay you. For it will be repaid to you at the resurrection of the righteous”.
Luke 14:13-14

Then Luke (for a reason I believe) immediately orders the following three parables:
... 100 out of 100 Sheep are His (even a lost one which He goes and searches for until He finds it and places it on His shoulders) ... 2 for 2 Coins found ... a Diaskorpízō (i.e. a ‘Prodigal’) Son and an Older, more Angry Son both party together with their Father.

Selah!

Humility and humbleness of heart comes to my mind. Vs. 24 sums up the whole parable as we were all dead in our sins, but through the grace of God are now made alive through His only begotten Son Christ Jesus in whom now we find favor in God.

By the grace of God and through the Spiritual rebirth we have now been resurrected from death unto life eternal as we have been risen with Christ and seek those things from above where Christ sits at the right hand of the Father, Colossians 3:1-4.

The other son being jealous of his brother displays that of those who deem others unworthy of the love of God as all they see and judge is the faults of others, but yet blind to their own faults like that of Matthew 7:1-5.

I’m personally looking forward to my resurrection and the reception that follows.
It is a promised wedding reception, indeed a pledge God has made to all His loved children, poor or not, dead or alive at Christ’s return.
“But when the king came in to meet the guests, he noticed a man who wasn’t wearing the proper clothes for a wedding. ‘Friend’, he asked, ‘how is it that you are here without wedding clothes?’ But the man had no reply. Then the king said to his aides, ‘Bind his hands and feet and throw him into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ For many are called, but few are chosen.”
(Matthew 22:11-14)

Being without wedding clothes is akin to ...
being viewed by God as NOT being righteous (in His eyes)!

WHO is seen by God as being righteous?

“… let no one deceive you. He who practices righteousness is righteous just as He is righteous. He who sins is of the devil
… Whoever has been born of God does not sin (habitually)
… In this the children of God and the children of the devil are manifest: whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God” (1 John 3:7-10)

“… you know that everyone who practices righteousness
is born of Him.” (1 John 2:29)

“… who fears Him and works righteousness
is accepted by Him” (Acts 10:35)

And those slaves went out into the roads and gathered everyone whom they found, both evil and good, and the wedding celebration was filled with dinner guests. Matthew 22:10
Yes, obviously Father regarded some as evil and some as good.
IMO, those who were not living righteously were considered evil
... regardless of whether they were non-believers or BACs.

Who do you think are considered evil in this passage? ...
7 He who overcomes shall inherit all things,
and I will be his God and he shall be My son.
8 But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.” (Revelation 21:7-8)

See Revelation 3:21 for who Jesus says the overcomers are!

Please note that all habitual sinners (including guilty BACs)
are included in this list, along with the non-believers!

BTW, "the cowardly" will include those BACs who:
-- fall away during Christian persecution
-- submit to taking the deadly mark of the beast

Every unclean thing and one who practices detestable things and falsehood.

Did the Father love the Prodigal Son?

See Revelation 3:21 for who Jesus says the overcomers are!
Or you could just read what it says.
As many as I love, I reprove and discipline. Be zealous, therefore, and repent!
Revelation 3:19 - https://www.biblegateway.com/passage?search=Revelation 3:19&version=LEB

How many sons got reproof?
How many sons got discipline?

Please highlight where ‘guilty BACs’ are mentioned in the passage. It could be that you’re reading something into this passage that’s simply not there. Do you include yourself as a ‘guilty BAC’?

-- submit to taking the deadly mark of the beast
How do you know BACs are cowardly? Is the Holy Spirit indwelling BAC’s cowardly?

For God has not given us a spirit of cowardice, but of power and love and self-discipline.
2 Timothy 1:7 - https://www.biblegateway.com/passage?search=2 Timothy 1:7&version=LEB

I'll just answer with this,
which is the most tactful thing I can come up with for you ...
Hope yer around when everyone is being forced to take the
mark of the beast ... then you'll see many cowardly BACs!
We'll see how many of yer chess men are still standing.
Wake up!

Whoever has been born of God does not sin (habitually)
Amen!

Please note that all habitual sinners (including guilty BACs)
are included in this list, along with the non-believers!

??? Didn’t you just say whoever has been born of God does not sin (habitually) then in another post say that habitual sinners include BACs?

Which statement is the correct statement about BACs???

What else is there to learn?

I identify with this story personally.

I have been the prodigal son, and come back to Him.

I have learned how much He loves me, and desires the best for me, but He also allows us to choose between what He wants for us, and what we think we need.

It’s frightening when I look back on what He has brought me through, and what He saved me from, after I became a Christian.

It makes me love Him all the more.

God is good, and His mercy endures forever.

I will say this, it’s up to us to repent and return to Him if we have strayed away.
