1Co 15:45
And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.

1Th 5:23
And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Heb 4:12
For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

For those who maintain that the "soul" is a "person".... please post your commentary on these passages.

~thanks~

1Co 15:45
And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.

According to the bible, Adam was made a soul:
Ge 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

1Th 5:23
And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

This verse seems to imply that the spirit, soul and body are different things. From Genesis one the soul came into being when the spirit of life was breathed into the body, so perhaps the soul is the entire person.

Heb 4:12
For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

The Word of God is so sharp that it can divide the spirit from the soul. This shows us that the spirit and the soul are so intermingled that they are almost indistinguishable.

I know that quite often we use the term Spirit and Soul interchangeably, personally I cannot see this as being a matter of "Essential doctrine", not a cause that should "divide us assunder".

Ge 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

all the sea creatures are living souls, TOO ---- Rev 16:3

no immortality here !

:B-fly: Let us not lose our soul to this world or to the enemy!
We are in a spiritual battle battle and it's a battle for souls.
What is it to gain the world if you lose your soul!

psuche means: soul, life, etc.....

What is it to gain the world if you lose your soul!

Matt. 16:25 - "For whosoever shall save his life [psuche] shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life [psuche] for my sake shall find it."*

In the R.S.V. "psuche" is translated "life" in vs. 26: "For what will it profit a man, if he gains the whole world and forfeits his life."

* Obviously if the words "immortal soul" were substituted for "life" in this reference, the result would be absurd.
