Rogue One. Is anyone really excited about this? It's not a continuation of the saga. Seems like a money-grab by Disney, and a lame one at that. I'm a big fan, but this is barely on my radar.

Side note. You'll be able to rent it from Amazon Prime for $40 a few weeks after its release. I'll bet this becomes a regular thing. About a month ago, I was asked by Google Rewards if I would be interested in doing this in a general sense. It seemed like a hypothetical question at the time, but I should have known ol' Googs had something up his sleeve.

Hi Mike,
I have this fear that one day movies will no longer be made for the big screen at cinemas but will go directly to rental.
That would be a sad day.
I remember standing on line with my brother to see Star Wars in an important theater in Manhattan back in '76. We had to purchase tickets in advance due to the demand!
It was fun to be there with everyone, nice comraderie.

Wondering

We must be near in age. I remember the same thing with my family for the first SW movie release. It was a BIG deal! Now, all of the theaters in my area have remodeled their rooms with huge reclining chairs, delivery of food to the chair, and beer/wine. Combine that with the smaller screens to get more of them in the building, and there is not very much difference from the huge tv's and surround sound many homes have. Still, being in the theater can make the experience bigger.

jasonc I think you'll be able to walk up and buy your ticket before the show.

I was statiioned in Panama at the time and got a front row seat. I remember as the opening scene started with the two ship fighting I just kinda sunk down into my seat with my mouth open.......I will go see Rogue One....side stories can be interesting if well done.....

I have never waited in a long line for any movie

Wow Mike,
You have all those services even at home?
Thank your wife for me!!

Most SW fans are antipating Rogue One as a full-length combat movie, darker and grittier than the "Episodes" but still canon. If it's fluff it's gritty fluff. Plus the re-appearance of the breathy one.

We have the originals on DVD but since I can't go to the movies any more I'll possibly never see what Disney did with it.

As a (mostly) life long Star Wars fan I am looking forward to this. I will not see it the week it comes out, mind you, but I will go see it in the theater. This is one of the few types of movies I will actually pay the money to see in a theater, for the experience.

BTW, this movie will highlight events between Revenge of the Sith and more closely leading up to A New Hope. This is actually a pretty big period of time, and there will be even more movies coming out that will try to fill in the events between those two movies which can be considered the "main storyline."

Star Wars has always distinguished itself from other sagas in part because of the interwoven story line, but also because they didn't stray from the finite installments. I'm just afraid this opens the door for watering down the bloodline with anything Disney thinks will sell tickets.

Yes, I thought Episodes 1 & 2 were big disappointments, but they stayed on pace with Lucas' original plan. With this, anything is on the table. Rogue One feels like a bastard child of Star Wars to me.

Look at it this way: Marvel has the Avengers yet each of the Avengers have their own sideline story. So far that has meshed well so if SW can follow suit there could be some interesting sideline stories that enhance the main story line....especially down the line.

If anyone here has netflix you can watch the animated version of SW. At first I thought it would be corny but it did fill some blanks from the mainline.

This doesn't do anything for me, bc all the super hero movies are lost in the clutter to me. I've never bothered with The Avengers. That's what concerns me about the uniqueness of Star Wars being tarnished.

Stay home watch reruns of episodes 4 to 6.

I don't like the new trek but let's be real ,most entertaininment is a retelling of the original . flash gordon, dated to the late 30s with those art deco winged ships along with Batman, superman which are also 30s era.I point out 30s era buildings to Nathan as being batman ,Gotham style . our old power plant fiTS that time and so does an ice house in Melbourne

You must have never read anything in the expanded universe. There is quite a bit that was written leading up to and surrounding the original trilogy (most of which is not considered anymore, but whatever), but a lot of that certainly is rabbit hole stuff.
