I was just going to write down a few thoughts of observation before I went on a bike ride. I remember that I used to love playing outside all of the time when I was a kid, but yet I see more and more kids staying inside on their devices or playing videogames. A lot of private and expensive schools are even requiring the purchase of those kinds of devices for both school and homework now. In fact my niece is one of them. Although it is very important for children to eat healthy, the reason of their obesity seems to lie more with the lack of exercise than lack of nutrition.
And forcing children to eat healthy is basically starving them to death. I say that the school shouldn't be the one in charge of their students' diets. That should primarily be the focus of their parents. Having them eat chicken nuggets, French fries, and pizza is a lot better than not filling their bellies with anything at all. And if somebody has an allergy to something in a lunch that a child brings from home, why not just separate that said child from the person who brought it?
Also, where is God in our schools today? Answer, nowhere. The separation of church and state makes that clear. However, I thought that meant that religion couldn't be forced on the students, I didn't know that mentioning His name, praying, and taking an elective course about Him was forbidden. America is a country founded upon Christianity. However, it is also a country founded upon the freedom of speech. So why is it alright to allow (and pretty much force) evolution into the minds of our children, but not allow God into schools anymore?
Finally, one of the greatest changes of all. Safety. All that a child should worry about when going to school is whether or not they studied hard enough for a test or get good grades on their homework. They shouldn't have to worry whether or not a kid that they sit with on the bus has a gun in their backpack. Unfortunately for them they do. One of my neighbors was telling me that there has been seventeen school shootings in total so far this year. Seventeen! As if one or two wasn't bad enough! Anyways, the problem doesn't lie with guns in my mind. The problem lies with the lack of security. Every child should feel safe when going to school and no parent should have to burry their child. Not EVER. So, one way to end gun violence is to make security better.
The other way is to teach children the importance of gun safety, avoiding strangers, and most importantly all schools should have lockdown drills. I know that is more recently becoming a thing which is good but I don't believe all schools have that yet. One other thing is training and arming staff members. Oh and also, they should start getting a better handling on bullying. Yep, the world is changing and sometimes I don't think that it's necessarily for the better. In order for good changes to happen though, there has to be people (like hopefully everyone reading this right now) around wanting to make them happen.
