[ quote]rebazar:
Salvation is NOT obtained by believing in Jesus

That's not what Jesus taught.

Are you saying that, if tomorrow was the end of the world, 5/6 of the world's people are going to hell because they don't believe in Jesus Christ ??

:biggrin First off, the % is wrong. It would be more like 2/3, if all 2 billion professed Christians werre really Christian. Plus, there is the reason why I believe Christ's return is not imminent...

Mat 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

Until the Gospel reaches EVERY nation, it just isn't happening.

You should NOT argue my position !! YOUR position is that the BELIEF in Jesus is essential for salvation, while my position is that the ADHERANCE to the gospel is essential for salvation. YOUR belief CONDEMNS 2/3 of the world's people to hell while my belief welcomes EVERYONE who adheres to the golden rule. The whole world knows about Jesus so we can expect the end to be very near !! Are 2/3 of the people going to hell ??

You are preaching a different gospel than pretty much every Christian I know if your gospel only requires adherence to the golden rule for salvation. And quite honestly, I think probably more than 2/3 of the the world would be damned if practing the golden rule was the only requirement.

rebazar,

Are you saying that, if tomorrow was the end of the world, 5/6 of the world's people are going to hell because they don't believe in Jesus Christ ??

No. I am saying that Jesus taught that salvation is obtained by believing in him.

John 3:16, as Vic pointed out, "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life."

John 6:40, "'For this is the will of My Father, that everyone who beholds the Son and believes in Him will have eternal life, and I Myself will raise him up on the last day.'

Jphn 10:9, "I am the door; if anyone enters through Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture."

John 11:25-26, "25 Jesus said to her, 'I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, 26 and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?'"

John 14:6, "Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.'"

John 17:3, "'This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.'"

And, of course, the rest of the NT agrees with this. I can provide more Scripture if you like. Can you provide even one to back up your claim?

YOUR position is that the BELIEF in Jesus is essential for salvation, while my position is that the ADHERANCE to the gospel is essential for salvation.

Belief in Jesus for salvation is the gospel, the "good news."

YOUR belief CONDEMNS 2/3 of the world's people to hell while my belief welcomes EVERYONE who adheres to the golden rule.

Matt. 7:13-14, "13 "Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. 14 "For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it."

If your way is broad, then it is the wrong way.

A belief by a majority doesn't necessarily constitute the truth ! We all know what happened with flat Earth theory, don't we ?
Let's see : A christian bible thumper loudly proclaims his love, and belief, in Jesus Christ, while at the same time condeming to hell all the unbelievers. On the other hand, a non-christian person quietly ministers to his fellow human beings just like Jesus DID.
Who will be saved ?

The Bible thumper.

One can spot a FALSE God and a true believer in Satan just by asking such simple questions !! When YOUR God doesn't even possess the minimum of justice and fairness required to be a human being, you can be sure that you have been deceived and that you are a Satan follower, despite what you proclaim !!
The correct answer is: non-believer will be saved and the Bible thumper is going straight to hell !!!!!!

Dear Rebazar.

We can safely conclude from the Bible:
Ro 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
Ro 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

We can also conclude:
Ro 6:23 For the wages of sin is death.....

2Th 2:12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

You see belief is essential:
Joh 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
Joh 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

Do not put your trust in works these will not justify you. It is Christ's work on the cross that justifies! He that believes will act accordingly!

rebazar,

A couple of major problems with your last post:

1. I used Scripture to back up my claim, you did not.
2. You ignore that it is only by God's grace that anyone gets to heaven; it is not by anything one does of their own merit.

God provided the way of reconciliation. We either do things his way and accept that free gift, or we don't. We certainly should never base things on human ideas of what justice and fairness are, especially since God alone is perfectly just. God has set the standard to get into heaven; one either accepts it or doesn't.

1. Quoting scriptures doesn't mean very much as should be plainly obvious to you by now. Anyone can "interpret" scriptures anyway they like.

2. Bad theology !!!! We are ALL equal before God and unless there is a clear standard by which man EARNS salvation, salvation, according to you, will be left to the whims of a wrathfull and jelous God. Hint: standard is Jesus' ministry to us ALL.

Human ideas of justice and fairness go all the way back to Adam and Eve, when we became "gods", knowing good from evil. To say that human justice is somehow flawed is ridiculous, especially since we are supposed to have another helper within us trying to show us the way. Is the spirit of God within us inferior ??
Free, you need to start thinking and not just quoting scriptures !! Thinking does aid in understanding !!!
