Paul said the apostles where abused but gave a blessing, thrown out, but respected others and tried the best for them.

We are called to follow Pauls example.
Jesus was led like a lamb to the slaughter yet did not raise a complaint.

We are called to be meek, to not dominate like the world or fight for our rights etc.

This is not passive acceptance of another, this is living as Jesus lived but not opposing evil, just accepting it and forgiving.
Pride is a dangerous thing when we want others to think of ourselves in a particular way, like speaking the truth.
I caught myself responding to the phrase, "you do not know".

Whether I know or not does not matter, what matters is the truth. If the other party does not know, they can neither judge or otherwise another for their knowledge. Put simply these statements are just pointers to discovery for oneself of the truth, if it matters. If the "you do not know" is just a put down, then in Christ it is best accepted. A reasonable response could be the truth is what matters, and my grasp of it is always limited, so I suggest one investigates further if it matters.

Jesus called us to turn the other cheek.
This rises above dominance, to say we choose to place ourselves as a sacrifice.
Love always asks, why do you need to do this, it serves no purpose?

This is not easy, and we are always caught out. How do I value myself, and what matters to me?

The word " meek " means power under control.

Please could you reference this because I have not come across this meaning before.

Some suggest meekness is a personality trait rather than a choice.

I've had two gifted teachers in my 33 years being perfected. Both taught this definition. The reference for the first teacher came from being connected to the first 100 of AA.
The second teacher was a Dr. of theology from Stanford University. He taught for 55 years from the largest collection of biblical manuscripts in private hands behind the Vatican. He taught almost every night for 50 years. He was a teachers teacher.

I don't know the exact reference to that meaning of " meek" and where it came from. But I know the work he put into finding the exact meaning of every word ever written in the Word of God, in every language! It can be trusted. But maybe you will have your own journey into understanding?

it's a military word regarding horse training - it means power under control for sure

I understand what you mean. This is an interpretive meaning.

I would say meek means stating the truth for its sake but not desiring to dominate. I say this because sin wishes to win at the cost of others, while the Lord desires to serve for the benefit of others.

Forums are an interesting example. Are we here to win or encourage others to go deeper? I have met some who see this as conflict not exploration. One dominates the other shares. God bless you

The Lord Himself was strong and pushed with force the Kingdom of God into this world yet He overcame the world as a servant.

God does seem to show favoritism to the have not's of this world who usually are those that are oppressed.'

“God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.”

The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free,

And Mary said:
“My soul glorifies the Lord
47 and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
48 for he has been mindful
of the humble state of his servant
...
He has brought down rulers from their thrones
but has lifted up the humble.
He has filled the hungry with good things
but has sent the rich away empty.

Just curious,. Do you know if that military term is used in the Greek texts?
yes - that is what i heard from a scholar - the romans used that term for the training of their horses - and that is why that term is listed in the bible - it was a common term of the day - i will see if i can find more than the one link i posted

here are a few - i googled "romans "meeked" their horses"

Interesting!
In Rom. 7:14-21 Paul is giving the perfect description of sanctification. In the Greek, it describes 3 entities in the equation. Paul, the sinful nature, and the Spirit of Christ.
Paul is merely an onlooker with only the power to choose which one he will give Himself (power) to. The sinful nature and the Spirit of Christ are engaged in what the Greek describes as " trench warfare" over Paul's soul, a military term!

lots of military terminology in the Greek texts, but seems to get lost in the English translations.

thanks for that!

lots gets lost in the english translations

one of the many things i get excited about is the hebrew word for prayer means POUR OUT - that radicalized my prayer life to know God wants us to pour out to Him - that is what He is asking for -

lots gets lost in the english translations

learning biblical hebrew and modern conversational hebrew right now - i see so much misinterpretation it is inspiring me to make sure i learn the biblical languages

basically if something sounds funny/off/hard to understand in the bible it is probably a translation issue

so when i find difficult passages in the bible i study them deeper in the original language - it's time consuming but infinitely rewarding

one of the many things i get excited about is the hebrew word for prayer means POUR OUT - that radicalized my prayer life to know God wants us to pour out to Him - that is what He is asking for -

another thing is covenant - the bible is a covenant book with covenant terms - the english translators lost that powerful concept when they translate as testimony or witness rather than covenant - a covenant with God is the most powerful thing He did for us - ratified by the BLOOD of the LAMB God set us up to never fail if we stand on the BLOOD of the LAMB and the words of the covenant

another term mistranslated is DOUBT - the greek word used by Jesus and by james means do not dissect/judge/pull apart - iow believe God and take Him at face value without pulling His words apart - take them in and chew them - don't put them on the table and dissect/judge/analyse/etc - that leads to leaning on our own understanding rather than leaning on the goodness and awesomeness of God - enter into all God said/did/offers like a child who enjoys the good things of God - iow enjoy God fully and whole-heartedly

Yup, God is a covenant making God!

If you like to learn from the earliest manuscripts available, I know a teacher who leads the field in that area. If your interested, let me know.

This brings up a question. Are you saying that the hundreds of scholars, theologians, and laypeople involved with the English translations know less than you? Not being sarcastic but trying to understand how you feel your credentials surpass theirs.

Strong's Concordance
praus: mild, gentle
Original Word: πραΰς, πραεῖα, πραΰ
Part of Speech: Adjective
Transliteration: praus
Phonetic Spelling: (prah-ooce')
Definition: meekness
Usage: mild, gentle.

Biblical meekness is not weakness, but rather refers to exercising God's strength under Hid control - i.e. demonstrating power without undue harshness

Not sure what you mean by pushed with force. Could you elaborate on this for me?

nope not at all - if you investigate how they translated you will find that THEY departed from lexical translation and put their OWN ideology in the text - the fact is proven by translators who translate it properly - so for every mis-translation you will find at least one translator who cares more about the integrity of God's word than interjecting his own theology into his translating work

for instance - God said HE made man a little lower than Elohim - Himself

translators know very well that Elohim is NOWHERE else used for angel - YET the translators decided that making man a little lower than Elohim makes no sense so God MUST have meant angels

this is what i am talking about

it's a straight out mis-translation for their own private reasons - not good solid lexical reasons

this is why we should all learn biblical languages if we can - the bible is VERY straight forward - God made it that way - EMET - TRUTH

man turned truth into theology - twists and turns of logic and analysis

we need to watch out for that - personal interpretations are warned against in scripture
