[__ Prayer __] Tugger the cat

He is a feral that has been sleeping on my porch. He is really torn up around his neck. It's open and I think infected. He won't let me touch him and he disappears during the day when if I caught him I could get him to a vet.

I'm not sure what to pray for, but he needs prayers.

Before whatever tore him up he was a nice semi-friendly feral. It kills me not to be able to do anything for him.

Please pray for some kind of resolution to this.

Joe, you know I'm praying for Tugger... as well as for your ability to get him into a cat carrier in order to transport him to the vet.

The feral stray I finally convinced into the carrier, & on to the vet, had about 3 months or so to survive with the damaged eye he had. He's now completely healed (after losing the eye) and is a charming & loving cat in my home. I still plan to find him his own home, where he can be the only pet ... he needs a lot of attention & affection.

Please keep us posted on Tugger's progress, Joe. In the meanwhile, prayers are headed your way!

Hi Joe, and I suggest a catch cage that has a trap door once triggered being baited with tuna fish. I caught a feral cat with one I borrowed or rented supplied by our local animal control agency. God bless your compassion in Jesus' name.

I've always thought it amusing that animals get so much more love and compassion from some people than do humans. Vets very often do a mercy killing once the doors are closed. :o

Eugene's suggestion is a good one, Joe ... borrow a catch-cage & bait it ... then take Tugger to the vet. If the vet understands you will take the cat home with you after Tugger's fixed up (even if it is only until you find a good home for him), there's a good chance the vet will reduce the total bill.

Prayers continue!

Your local SPCA may have live traps available or they may where you can find one... Your vet may also be a resource.. If you are in a rural area most ranchers have at least one.. ( they do here)

Sometimes, people have been so hurt by other humans that it takes the unconditional love & compassion from animals to rescue these people. And I won't put limits on how our Lord brings healing into each of our lives.

As for vets doing mercy killings .... I recently had to have my 14 year old cat put to sleep. He developed a cold over a weekend...got him in on the following Monday ... quick diagnosis was an upper respiratory infection (obviously)...but further into the check-up, my vet found a huge growth, which my cat didn't have a year ago...my vet estimate it weighed 1/3rd of my cat's weight, which was down to 9 pounds. (This cat was a tall & long cat....weighed 17 pounds (without fat) in his prime.) The growth was an agressive cancer...and my cat was suffering. Since surgery wasn't an option (he could live without the affected spleen, but not without the affected liver), and since a cure wasn't available, the only humane thing to do was to put him to sleep.

A 'mercy killing' ? I don't view it as a 'killing'. The cancer was killing my beloved cat. Having him put to sleep was a merciful easing of the death process, and one that removed the pain from him before he went to sleep and passed.

I've had experience with feral cats out here, and went through (or still have) 15 of them. Trust me, they do stuff like that. Unless the cat is overly sick and very weak, he'll get over most typical infections. However, he may have something like feline leukaemia which they can't do anything for anyway.

It's like people. 99% of the people out there, not matter how sick they feel, don't really need a doctor and will get "over it" themselves but they just think they won't. And of the stuff they can't get over the medical world can't cure anyway. It's more of a "comfort" thing. Antibiotics will, for example, maybe help the cat to recover faster so that it can stand up for itself better next time (I'd worry more about it being attacked while ill). I think the most important thing for you to do is to gradually make friends with it so that the day comes that the cat will let you handle it for any medical care. All mine did with me, although in reality, with fights or no fights, I sincerely do not believe medical care made a difference anyway--- maybe the preventative shots, that's about it.
