Where it gets ugly is when an independent purchases a used truck that's been through multiple owners and they become their own primary mechanic. Rates for routes are already low and they don't have a truck that's reliable enough to keep the good, well paying routes.

It's a tough business and DOT knows many independent truckers can't afford to maintain their equipment to safety standards, so they are easy targets to generate state revenue which adds to the financial pressure they already have.
this is exactly where he is at the very dotting of the I and crossing of the T . I DONT PRAY INTO HIS TRUCK BUSINESS AS PAY PER LOAD from what he has told me he has been getting the low ball loads. you can make money as long as no major break downs . i bought one truck but it wasnt that great..so he bought another with rebuilt motor. he had a job driving making around 700.00 a week . all he had to do was call in if he had no loads still paid.. he fixed his DOT break light got going had take 30 min fed break.. i often wonder why they put restraints on truckers . that is sorta like telling your wife she is limited on what she can cook.. the truck has to roll to make money .

on the positive side he will soon be home .he has some sawmill ties that he can haul locally .make money ..this could be God way of saying hello roger .. mine was getting my picture took in a marijuana patch of 30 plants over 6 feet tall. He put the breaks on that .. so i pray and by faith wait to see what the big picture is that God has..

the only way to make it as an owner operator is team drive - lots of husband wife teams etc

single driver and one log book is really bad way to compete with company drivers who get all the best loads
