Does anybody on here do this? I was just wondering because I was told that somebody could actually be able to track down your location by this if they're a real technical wizard so I don't do it but I was just wondering if that was true and how it would be possible.
 
I've done video chatting with people, basically, so I could know that they are who they claimed to be. Particularly with my friend whom I planned to meet in person eventually.
I don't know if someone could find your location through a video chat

Yeah well that's just something that my future mother in-law told me so I don't know either and obviously that's why I'm asking lol.

the avatar, lol that is a working light. it looks like a cat eye that close brightly when you face it.
 
Everyone uses an IP address. That address is location specific with a particular routing and machine location to which the data is routed to... similar to an old ten digit land line phone number was.

Currently some people use some technology to hide their location. It doesn't work as well as they believe it does.

Certain "chat programs" are better with security than others but most aren't safe from those who want to know your location.

I always knew about the IP addresses, but does that make it easier to decode while using a webcam or something?

What IS video chatting??

I don't even keep my Skype camera on my screen.
A tech wiz, as you called it, can tune in to it and see your home. They can do things we can't even think of.
