So do you have it at Christmas or Thanksgiving or both?

I must admit that I never heard of it either but it looks an awful lot like ice cream. If I minused the pecans I would love it! :biggrin

Salad recipe....link
Oh, this stuff. I didn't know this was the actual name of it. As a kid we would call it marshmallow salad or a fruit salad. This only tastes good if made right. Otherwise it is yucky.

I have only seen it at potlucks. We never have used Watergate Salad as a Thanksgiving or Christmas dish.

It was a classic signature dish of the Watergate Hotel in Washington DC. Just like Waldorf Salad is a signature dish from the Waldorf Astoria in NYC. Both are high dollar Hotels offering every amenity.

It's a popular Salad for special occasions like Christmas or Thanksgiving. (Put something green on your plate when you don't want to)

Btw, I'm not a huge fan of cherries and up until now I didn't realize that there were pistachios in the pudding.

Maybe you can still make it without the pistachios though and have it be some other kind of pudding. My mom is thinking about making some kind of pumpkin pudding for our early Thanksgiving on Saturday which is really nice for me because I really like the pumpkin part of pumpkin pie but I was never a huge fan of the crust. :)

Pistachio pudding doesn't have real pistachio in it...just the flavor. And the green color is iconic.

And you can keep your nasty pumpkin pie... lol...I prefer apple or pecan pies

Good to know. Never heard of a Waldorf Salad...I will have to look it up. Haha. Maybe we just had alternative names for these, too. Maybe the opposite side of the country has something to do with that.

Kind of funny I haven't seen it at holidays.

I'm not a fan of actual salad. (That's what I thought it was at first.)
