Ah, John, John...I've so enjoyed this conversation. The reason I claimed confusion was over your quoting of Old Covenant Law as if we were still to abide by that very same old covenant...I am no longer under that Law and neither are you.

You suggested I wear jeans to church...well, hold onto your hat brother...I do. Every week if I feel like it. God is not concerned with what type of material I put on my flesh . In fact, I am quite certain there is nothing I could wear that would impress Him...I do believe He is only impressed with His Son Jesus Christ....in whom my new identity lies.

Women wore pants in the OT and men wore skirts.

Men are to not try and appear as females and women are not to try to appear as men.

Deuteronomy 22:5 The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the LORD thy God.

Cross dressing is an abomination in the site of God.

That doesn't mean a woman cannot wear pants it means she shouldn't try to fool people into thinking she is a man and a man shouldn't try to fool people into thinking they are a woman.

In other words the way Boy George dresses is an abomination. 8-)

The issue here is modesty.

Men should dress appropriately and so should women.

A woman should not dress in a way as to encite lust.

I don't think a woman wearing pants is wrong.

I certainly think that a lot of men and women dress in an immodest manner in this day and age.

I don't believe a man has to wear a suit to church to please God nor does a woman have to wear a dress either.

The spirit of this is modesty.

1 Timothy 2:9-10 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.

I don't think this is that difficult to grasp.

Just an after thought! But do you think that the Holy Spirit is being withdrawn on earth by some today? Take a good look around. We hear of the slaughter in Iraq, yet, what about the daily satanic slaughter in our own city streets? And, yes, dress had a part in all of this! Even inside of [all] professed Christian church's, huh? :crying: See Isaiah 3:16-21.

The women in Iraq wear clothing that covers them from the top of their head to their toes. What people wear had nothing to do with it - it's HOW one wears what they wear that has problems.

Iraq still has sexual imorality!

aprons don't cover the top of the legs or the stomach or shoulders. The aprons would have covered the rudi bits and that's about all. I wouldn't imagine fig leaves would have covered all that much. I'm sure most of us wear less on the beach ;)

Actually no - I just want to kinda blend in rather than stick out like a sore thumb with my 'sack' if I was to wear one.

The issue is modesty.

Yeh but modesty is subject to people's opinions. I would think that wearing - say...a peasant top was quite modest others wouldn't. I would think that wearing a skirt about an inch above the knee can still be modest - some of the older generation would not. I would think that wearing a singlet top that showed my arms and my shoulders as modest but other people would not. It's all relative really.

Dressing like a whore or a woman of loose morals is not modest.

I agree.

I read somewhere in these threads that very young pre teen girls even under 10 were wearing shirts that said "porn star" on them.

Discretion is relative.

Hi John-- But would you agree that respectable dress is subjective? I mean, the Amish would see me in a knee length dress and call me a loose woman for not wearing a long dress and the 18th century church leaders would see me in a long dress with my wrists exposed and subject me to the town stocks.

Who is to say what is modest or immodest? Is the sin mine when I choose to wear blue jeans...or is the sin yours when you look at me with lust in your heart?

Can you truly judge my born again status by the clothes I wear? Should you be judging me at all?

A former stripper would grow into her sanctification and I would imagine her dress would move towards modesty...at what point will you look at her and say, "Ah! NOW you're saved! I no longer look at you and LUST!" Surely this isn't what you're saying....

People will be immoral no matter what.

Christian men and women should not add fuel to the fire by dressing like whores and whoremongers.

Titus 2:3 The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things;

Titus 2:4 That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,

Titus 2:5 To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.

Colossians 3:17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

But what if the pretty blouse I wore yesterday that I viewed as 'modest' provoked lust from some pervert? What then?

What if EVERYTHING that one wears provoked lust? What if the fact of just BEING provoked lust? Do you not wear any clothes AT ALL in case the clothing you wore provoked lust? Ha ha - now wouldn't that be funny. "Gee Lord, everything I wore seemed to provoke lust so I just decided to wear my birthday suit cos I ran out of clothes"

I crack myself up.

Anyway - modestly is relative. You cant' please everyone so your best bet is to just do what the Holy Spirit has put on your heart to do and if that means that you wear something that SOME may deem is not being modest then so be it. Some people have minds that belong in the gutter - you can't help that ;)
 
You've made some excellent points. I agree...I mean, WHAT is modest? One poster up above thought long robes OVER pants was called for..sounds like Islamic dress to me. Would the 'hijab' head covering also be required?

If I wear a tank top in the summer, have I gone too far? What if I wear..*gasp*...a swimsuit at the beach? Whose rules should I go by?

What is lust-inducing to one, may not be to another. I had a man, once, practically beg me to remove my shoes....LOL! If I had been wearing flip-flops, it appears I would have been exposing enough to incite lust!

So, once again, we come back to trusting our Father to guide us through the Holy Spirit....and to not judge one another.

I agree there are people that are going to be lustful no matter what.

All I am saying is that men and women should not dress in a lewd manner.

I don't believe people when they say that they have no idea what that means.

Anyway I have given my thoughts in this thread.
