Wool socks are the best. I remember one year I got called out at night in wintertime. There was a small river flowing down a mans driveway. He was out of town. The furnace had gone out and his pipes froze, then thawed and flooded the basement until it came up and outside to where the neighbors noticed.

And I was the lucky one chosen to go kick in a basement window and make entry to shut the water off. I put on my best wool socks to help. It was only a little over knee deep. I shut it off. and went out to go home. My pants began freezing and getting stiff before I even got back to the truck! My legs were so cold on the ride home, from my knees down to...where my wool socks began. There was such a big temperature difference between my feet and lower legs, that it felt like I had heaters on my feet.

Some people say they don't like wool because it makes them itchy. Itchy wool is simply cheap wool. Good wool isn't itchy.
So it's easy to tell good wool. They do sell good wool socks at the store, but they cost more.
The wool socks must have helped your circulation Edward. They may have saved your life.

Now that Thanksgiving is over I feel like I can mention it. The top few things that I want for Christmas are:

1. To give to those who are less fortunate than us.

2. A dog, even though I'm pretty sure that isn't happening anytime soon.

3. Coco

4. Dolphin Tale Two

5. Beauty and The Beast Live Action

6. The second Jumanji movie.

5. I saw that as a kid years ago at what is now and then called riverside theatre. they would take us there for camps during the summer and the school system for that and a few others(scrooge, beauty and beast, the nutcracker once, and a few others.

Oh yeah and I realize that that was more than a few things but yeah that's my list, and of course I always like surprises. :)

I know that I already promised myself that I wouldn't actually be posting Christmas music until December first, but I just couldn't help myself since I figured that we could all use some reminders about what time of the year it really is. GGM! :eek2 (AKA Great googly moogly!)

(Oh and I totally forgot one important other thing that I want for Christmas. The same exact thing that I've been wanting for years ever since my fiancée went to prison. :crying)

But aren't you going to give some gifts?

The thoughtful gifts we give always speak to those you give them to and say how much you care about them.
I have to admit that I struggle very much in that area. Thinking back on all the gifts I've given my wife for example, I can count on one hand how many of them she actually used. Even last year I bought a few massage sessions for her. She has a disability due to her back and I know she enjoys having her back massaged so I thought it might be good to have a professional administer the massage rather than me with my clod-hoppers. I don't think she used the gift certificates yet and it is approaching another Christmas.

When I deer hunt I wear wool socks. No cotton or other type just the wool socks. It makes a huge difference keeping my feet warm.

As far as store bought vs hand made, the quality is in the materials used and not necessarily the work done. The sentimental value is in the work done and by whom it is done.

My ex-wife and I ran a knitting business for a few years until our divorce. The business was doing quite well with good growth. Each year we doubled our previous year's business. It was too bad when her eye began to roam out of our marriage.

My mother taught me how to knit when I was a teenager and she did a lot of knitting. I have hand-knitted socks, mitten liners, sweaters and so forth. One thing I know for sure is our machine-made products were much more uniform so sizing was more consistent and repeatable than hand-made. I still wear a couple sweaters that we made and that was almost 25 years ago.

One of our product lines was knitted socks. We used a much thinner all wool yarn because it made the socks less bulky but it was pure wool and not a polyester blended yarn. That was my influence because I wanted to produce a good quality sock for the sportsmen and women. We didn't care about material price when it came to the yarns we purchased because our goal was to produce good quality even if it meant fewer overall sales. We did use other material types as well but when you want real warmth, especially where things tend to get moist, you go with 100% pure wool.

early xmas for me now. best shot I have ever got of that. this reminds me of the lunar module photo taken when it was orbiting. the rocky look and I can see some of that with the edge. I zoomed in with my camera as best as I could and set the aperture as close as I could get it and shutter speed to as fast it would allow and then adusted this on gimp.
