For those that know me I have a very specific approach when it comes to the end times. Prepare your heart should the end happen today, but prepare your life should it not occur until after you are dead and gone.

With that in mind, what is truly the point of having more than a cursory understanding of the end times? I never get into discussions about pre/post trib stuff. I never get into discussions about the rapture itself either. Part of my attitude toward stems from seeing people I grew up around, or have been influence by in one degree or another, make decisions that end up detremental to themselves and people around them. In one such case an individual quit their job and ended up losing their house and ultimately had to get a new job and move into a rental, all because they believed the end was imminent.

Thoughts?

Hi Knotical
O am very much with you on this.. I believe we are in the last times, but who knows how long that will be.
Live every day as if it was your last, but plan for the future.
Follow the Lord's guidance and we can't go wrong. I love the letters to the churches in Revelation because that's how we should live anyhow.

We need to be ready because when Jesus comes back it will be when the world least expects it. I am not talking go crazy and make yourself like a doomsday prepper (not that this is wrong), but we must know our identity in Christ and no matter how the world turns, He looks after us and will keep us.

But how does this differ from the approach I already mentioned?

“But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only. Matthew 24:36 ESV

Just obey the Lord one day at a time.

This is why many of us study the end time events so we will not be deceived like that guy who had no truth as he believed the lies of the false prophets that bring a distorted word of God as Satan works through them. He ended up losing all he had because he was deceived.

Jesus said that no man knows the day or the hour, but does give us signs to watch for if you read Matthew 24. As it was in the days of Noah they knew not that a flood was coming and it carried them all away except for Noah who preached unto to them, but they mocked him instead, Matthew 24:36-39.

Like you said, the important thing is to be prepared for the return of Christ whether we be alive at His coming or die before He returns, but many like me want to know the signs and those things which must come first.

Matthew 24:24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall show great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. 25 Behold, I have told you before.

For as the lightning comes from the east and flashes to the west, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. Matthew 24:27 NKJV

I think this means that when Jesus comes believers will know. It will be an unmistakable event. We won't need anyone to tell us that He is here. Just as when lightening is in the sky, everyone can see and hear it for themselves. They don't need the person next to them to tell them that it is lightening.

Ok, but aside from being well-rooted in sound doctrine so it is easy to spot someone who is preaching a false one, what is the pragmatic use of dwelling on end times events?

If we do not learn of the signs Jesus gave us in scripture of His return we could easily be duped by the son of perdition/false prophet believing he is Christ by his deceptive lying signs and wonders and end up taking the mark of this beast.

The lightning in that verse just symbolizes how quick Jesus will come like that of a flash of lighning.

Rev 7:7 Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.

We can read when Christ will return in Matthew 24:29-31, but yet no one knows the day or the hour. Everyone alive or in their graves will see Christ come with clouds, but only those who are His own will be caught up to meet Him in the air, John 5:28, 29; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18.

It depends on which end times teaching .
Each calls the other wrong .

Are we not to teach the whole of the Bible. We can't just pick and choose only parts of the teachings of Christ, but need the full. If Jesus didn't want us to know about end times then I would think He would have not taught it Himself.

He is a addressing the dwelling of it.

Logical conclusion if one believes we are that close to the rapture why save money,go,to,school, and other things?

I have seen a ups man leave his job like that .I,think, that is his op.the more i have read it.the more I,thought, the church doesn't know.I mean amil, preterist to either a type of tribulation with an,a.c..unsure

This is the only book that has a promise directly to those who read it aloud in public. Is this how high the Lord holds the knowledge of Revelation? No other book singled out in this manner.

Scripture says more about the end times than any other time period in history, even when Jesus walked the earth, so it must be very important.

Not many people know this, especially if they do not study Revelations, is that it makes up almost, if not all, every book that is in the bible. Although as disciples of Christ we need to be concentrating more on the Gospel message of God's salvation.

We can know by the signs Jesus gave us, but yet not know the day or the hour. The main thing is to be ready when He comes.
